New iMac - best way to clean the screen?

Hello all. I have a new iMac, and sadly, my screen is already dirty. My buddy made me laugh and I spit a good load of beer on my scrreen. Can I use windex and cloth safely, or do I have to only use the included cleaning cloth?

Get 2 sheets of paper towel (Kleenex Viva or Bounty only, otherwise it will scratch). Completely wet one of the paper towel's sheet and leave the other sheet dry.

Clean the screen with the wet one and immediately dry it with the dry sheet. It will look sparkling clean without any chemical film.

well it is GLASS, so u can use anything. Windex etc.

Any glass cleaner should be fine. However, I do use an iKlear kit as it does a great job and leaves no smear. It also doesn't contain harsh chemicals so I can use it to clean other parts like the keyboard, mouse, etc.

I just dust it off when needed. No need to wipe the screen with a wet cloth unless you are slobbering all over it :D:D

I do the same with my camera's glass, too.

It is glass but, I'm slightly concerned about harsh chemicals ruining the finish over time. This is the best cleaner I've ever used and the cleaning cloth is awesome.

There are plenty of approved cleaners..I use iKlear.

I read that iKlear was leaving nasty streaks on the screen. Nobody is having that problem with iKlear?

I only use iklear, I just use one spray on one of the included microfibers and it doesn't leave streaks.. anything more and yeah it can leave annoying streaks. after I go over the screen with the apple cleaning cloth that came with the imac.

I assume because he's instigating the harmful affects of ammonia on a glass screen and if any got onto the iMac's 'anodized aluminium' body.

yeah, basically the same reason you shouldn't use windex on lcd/plasma tvs.. the ammonia in it will damage the screen. you might get away with it on the imac since it has a glass screen but why chance it? buy a specialty screen cleaner and use a microfiber.. its not worth taking chances on such an expensive unit. also I avoid using regular paper towels since they are harsh and it can scratch the screen.

iKlear or iClean is what should be used.

Either that or a lint free cloth dampened with tap water. Once the water has dried, use another lint free cloth to remove streaks.

There is a coating on the screen that removes the worst of the glare (people who think Glossy screens are reflective haven't seen anything compared to the reflections of plain glass on a screen), Windex, Windowlene or any acidic (vinegar based) or alkaline based cleaner will damage that coating.

I use iKlear as well.

To avoid streaks, let the display turn off( or do it before you wake the computer) and let it cool off for about 20 minutes. It streaks due to the solution dries due to the heat of the screen/computer before you can go back and buff the screen with the dry part of the cloth causing the streaks.

Yes, iKlear is polymer based and does leave streaks.

I used Optimist Prime (http://www.shaggymac.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=73) to clean off those streaks and has won a spot on my shelf. They also make great protector cloths for Macbooks.
