My hard drive went out on my macbook (late 07 model black). So while replacing my hard drive i am looking to upgrade too. but i don't know what hard drive to put in it. i was looking at many different ones but i heard that it can not be bigger than 9.5mm and that knocks out the hard drive that i was looking at.

i really would like something like it. does anyone have and suggestions?

That drive will work fine. See the specs: http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=477

Use pricegrabber to find it for under $100

my bad i was going by the amazon dimensions thanks for the quick reply
now i have another question. is there going to be a large read/write speed difference between that hard drive and this one.

I do a lot of media work so i would like the extra space but not if it is going to slow me down.

What on earth are you talking about? What exactly are the "amazon dimensions" and why do you think they're wrong? That is a 2.5" drive with 9mm height and everything on the Amazon link you provided is correct.

You can actually get up to a 500 GB drive that runs at 7200 RPM ($105 on Newegg) or a 640 GB that runs at 5400 RPM ($120 on Newegg). Both are cheaper than the 320 GB you’re looking at on Amazon.

A larger drive at the same speed is actually probably going to be faster, because the data is stored more densely on the platters.

Amazon lists it at 0.5" (12.5mm) high for some reason.

Product Dimensions: 3.9 x 2.8 x 0.5 inches ; 4.2 ounces
