Hello Everyone,
I have been trying to set up a network game of C&C Red Alert 3. i have however run into a problem.
One of the macs is fine, I can go to the network tab and i can see the other player on the network. From this mac I can not talk via the chat box.
From the second mac i cant see the other player. However from this computer if I talk via the chat the first mac can see the conversation.
What i tried to do is set up a game from the second mac and join from the first mac, because the first mac can see the second, but when i try and begin the game i get the connection times out error
I have checked to see if they need updates, but they are up to date.
Please can any help me....i wanna play ! =D

-Neb

Are you using a firewall or disabled communication through certain ports that the game might need ?
I am guessing you are using two network adapters ? Disable the one you don't need ( probably wireless ) as the game might get confused which one to use.
Hope this helps.

Hi masterofbuckets thanks for your reply.
One of the macs has Norton Anti Virus, I have disabled that though. We are both connecting using the Airport to connect to the network.
There are 2 things I dont quite understand:
Are you using a firewall or disabled communication through certain ports that the game might need ?
I dont understand what you mean by disabled communication though certain ports

I am sorry I dont know what you mean. Please could you explain to me.
Thanks for your help its greatly appreciated.

Are you playing on BootCamp ( Windows ) or Mac or both ?
This has been seen on Windows by some players.

I dont understand what you mean by disabled communication though certain ports
Computers have physical slots you plug compononets into to communicate with them ( e.g the USB port ) . In a networking sense, ports are you can say logical slots/holes ( constructed using software) through which your system can communicate to devices on your local network or internet ( outside your internal network ).
Certain programs/firewalls allow the user to block any communication on these software ports and as a result, games who may be needing those ports to function will cry foul.
I am sorry I dont know what you mean. Please could you explain to me.
What I meant was that you might have a network setup at home where you have more than one router. You said you are connecting via wireless on both machines so you are using a wireless router. Do you have another router/switch plugged in your network ?
Have you tried playing via Ethernet instead of Wireless ( i.e plugging both your machines physically to the router ) ?
Thanks for your help its greatly appreciated.
Welcome.
