So I don't know how to better explain it (wish I had an example, maybe I'll come on and add one later if people don't understand what I'm talking about). Anyway, the sound effect when something big happens (like when you see the alien for the first time in 'Signs') and you get the heavy bass and 'HOLY CRAP' sound in horror movies - I am in search of it. Don't know if it has a specific name or what, but I need those 'Ah HAH!' sound effects for a few 'Ah HAH' moments in a short film I'm doing. If anyone even remotely knows what I'm talking about/could help me/could point me in the right direction that would be fantastic.

Thanks! :apple:

I probably should have tried to describe myself better. "Ah-HAH" probably wasn't the best descriptor lol. I'm looking for the more serious 'reveal moment' not the old spy movie cheesy sound effect.

A perfect example is every time you see something scary in the movie 'The Strangers.'

It's got the heavy bass.

Im still not sure what you are getting at. All I hear in that trailer is reverberant door slam type sounds for the most part.
I'd suggest having a look around on www.soundsnap.com It's a great source of free sound effects. If you can't find something suitable on there, you likely won't find it anywhere.

Haha I was just pulling your leg, I wasn't too sure what you were talking about.

Have a look at the synth pads and synth textures presets in garageband. Some are pretty spooky when played in the lower octaves. You could use several of the presets on different tracks too. You know, tense up and then a huge hit once something happens.

Yea, I'm thinking I need to just mess with my keyboard and try a combination of things. I realized some of the FX sound like exploding bombs on the low end. I think I just need to experiment and see what works. It's all about those SHOCK moments...gotta build the suspense!

Thanks for everyone's comments. If anyone happens to stumble on this thread and can figure out exactly what I'm looking for, by all means, let me know :)
