I have an old mac book and got a http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10428&cs_id=1042802&p_id=5969&seq=1&format=2 for chirstmas. I am guessing i have an old display port so i can't use this cable. Is there a simple adapter for me to adapt my displayport to the minione on this cable?

Well, you have an old MacBook with a miniDVI (not DisplayPort) output, so you have to get a miniDVI to HDMI adapter.

Ok. Its an old black plastic macbook. What i want is audio and video from one hdmi cable. I already have that monprice cable i linked in the op is there anyway to make that work? or should i scrap that cable and do this some other way?

The cord you have cannot be made to work. You need a mini-DVI to HDMI (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10419&cs_id=1041912&p_id=4852&seq=1&format=2) cable. There is not (that I know of) a one-cord audio/video solution for mini-DVI Macs, so you'll have to run the audio via a second cable.
