Due to endless partition failures of my SSD Raid0 array under 10.6.2 I wish to downgrade back to 10.6.1. Is there a way to do this without a new install?

I don't think so.
The only way to downgrade is to reinstall, and not update ... unless you have a backup from before the upgrade.

Why not do a fresh install and then use Migration Assistant to move user accounts and programs over from a Time Machine backup?

A reinstall of 10.6 and then manually downloading the 10.6.1 update is probably the only way.
Here is a link to 10.6.1... http://support.apple.com/kb/DL930

That would work, but it's still a reinstall.

OK, so it's a bit of a hassle, but so what? Just set it up to run overnight and you're done by the time the sun rises. It doesn't hurt that it's early January and the OP is in the northern hemisphere :)

"Archive and Install" should work.
