Is it possible with the release announcement today of this new mobility card that Apple will probably put this in the iMac, and what do you think the wait for this will be?
I wish they would update the 4850 to this right now!

who knows
my guess is next revision witch might be Q2 of this year maybe Q3
i am with you, i wish they would skip the 4850 since it is outdated and just to to 5800 hell if it was $200 (witch i can't see it) more expensive i am sure people would spend the money

i think any 5000 series would be better then 4850 at this point

I am really hoping they put in one of the 5xxx series cards in the next iMac, imagine how good a gaming machine that would be then.

How could the skip the 4850?
When the 27" iMac was released the 4850 was the fastest ATI mobility card had to offer.

ATI Mobile Radeon 5870 is possible as it runs cooler than 4850 but iMacs were just updated and it's not Apple's style to update them everytime something new comes. We'll likely see ATI 58xx in iMac in next update which may be around June (WWDC '10)

Personally I've discovered that it's worthless speculating on what apple will do product wise.
You will know if they're going to use it, if they release.

I'm holding off buying a 27" until the 26th..my life would be complete if they decided to shove them in then! I can't wait until June :(

I've had the flicker problem on my new 27", and allot of folks continue to have the problem even after Apple replaced their machines...... so if the issue is the 4850, Apple may simply move that direction or similar, if that's the better fix..... any thoughts here?

Nah, it's not the GPU. ATI 4850 was used in early 2009 iMacs as well and after problematic launch it's been very stable.

Given their graphics history with the iMac and the Mac Pro, it's unlikely that apple will put a 5870 in the iMac. Instead, it will likely be a 5850 in the iMac and a 5870 or 5890 in the Mac Pro.

iMac uses mobile GPUs while Mac Pro uses desktop. Mac Pro has anyway a better GPU than iMac do, no matter what

Afaik no Apple computer has ever had top of the range graphics chips so far. Always medium range stuff.
True that for the price you could expect a i5 or i7 Mac would at least have the latest version of graphic chipsets (albeit lower performance mobiles ones).

I cannot find a single string containing information regarding any Radeon HD 5xxx GPUs in the relevant kexts. Even in developer seeds.
