I am having some severe problems with a Power MAC G4 running 10.2.8 (6R73) that has dual GHZ processors and 512 RAM.

This beautiful machine was sitting on the shelf for over 6 months. Brough it out for a new hire and plugged her in and I am having severe network issues. I have read all the hub bub about the ethernet problems with the intital release of the 10.2.8 package. I have followed all the fix ideas. I am still experiencing huge packet loss and a sel assigned DHCP IP in the 169 range.

I have installed all the updates for 10.2.8 from Apple. I tried an older version of the Kext file described in so many of the musing about the original release of 10.2.8.

What else can I do?

Will 10.3.x help?

Will some kind sould help?

Is there a reason not to upgrade from 10.2.8 to at least 10.3.4 if not 10.3.5? It should fix the problem and give you some additional features/security patches, etc.
