Recently I've been listening to a lot of Japanese chick punk bands like Cibo Matto, Melt Banana, Shonen Knife, and the 5, 6, 7, 8's.

Am I the only one listening to this?

Does anybody have any band recommendations?

Comments of any kind?

I've only listened to the 5, 6, 7, 8's from the Kill Bill soundtrack. Their song Woo Hoo is in my top 25 most played smart playlist. :p

Woo, hoo, woo hoo hoo. THAT song is ANNOYING. Woo hoo!

Now, "Goodnight Moon" from volume 2's soundtrack, on the other hand, or "Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" ....

I also like Twisted Nerve by Bernard Harrmann and That Certain Female by Charlie Feathers.

I like Cibo Matto. I like Melt Banana more. OOIOO even more. Can't stand the 5,6,7,8s.

Haven't heard of OOIOO, I'll have to check them out.

Use caution. Around purists, calling Melt Banana (which actually has two male and two female members) or OOIOO "punk" is sure to get you some death threats or something of the like.

labeling music is crap, but I generally put them in the japanese noise-rock group.

Look into Guitar Vader. They've released a few albums and they're pretty good. You might recognize some of their music if you've ever played jet set radio. J Pop is awesome but it can get annoying if you listen to it too much. Take it in stride is my advice.

I saw Melt Banana here in New Jersey a few years back what a interseting show that was. Cibo matto are great but get annoying after awhile (play jetset radio future and you will know what i mean), and Shonen Knife just flat out rock. :)
