An iPod touch can only be synced with one computer at a time. If you try plugging it into a second computer, it will prompt you to wipe the device's memory.

when you plug into another computer it asks to sign in. when you sing in you register that computer for 1 out of 5 comps your ipod can sync to without deletings.

To the OP: FIRST OFF, i just HAVE to ask, where or how did you get your screen name? i think you can tell i'm asking for obvious reasons. haha

YES YOU CAN. sort of. if you mean sync as in technically sync data then no, not without modifying some code in the 2nd itunes database. you can google for more info. BUT if you mean, you just want to be able to get media from different itunes that you plug into, then yes.
to set it up. plug into YOUR itunes, click on your itouch and under the summary tab where it says options, check off the box that says "manually manage music and videos".
now you can "sync" or grab media from any itunes you plug into. hope that helped. enjoy!
is it possible to not have to wipe the memory? jb or no
DEFINATELY JAILBREAK would be my answer if you have an iPhone. otherwise i just feel iphone has too many features missing. JBing allows you 2 make it the phone it should've been out the box.
But more direct to your questions since i'm guessing you have a touch, its up to you. if you like theming and generally customizing and fiddling with different gadgets then go for it. otherwise i don't think i see a reason.

Really? Because the only thing I have synced with my touch is apps, everything else ( such as music, movies and tv shows) is not synced and so I can put music on my itouch from any computer (yes I have tested it).

The Zune has much better sound quality and can output 720P to a TV over HDMI using a Zune AV dock.
The Touch has the app store.
Do you watch tv/listen to music or play around with apps?

I believe you could play around with them side-by-side at a story like Best Buy, that's probably the best way to figure out.
The answers here and on the Zune forums will not be biased one bit... I mean they are going to be the absolute fairest judgements...

No, that's for iTunes Store Accounts.
You can share purchased media with up to five computers.

Is it set to manually sync? That's the only way I know of that you can do that.
But if you drag music from the computer to the iPod (with manual sync), you won't be able to add it to your iTunes library.

Yes it is, by turning syncing off and adding music manually, by manually dragging music or folders onto the iPod as listed in the side pane. You can get the music off on another computer by using 3rd party utilities like Senuti. The music is stored in a hidden folder using an obscure naming scheme to deter copying, but programs like Senuti can read the database and copy them off with the right names.

Sound quality? Not from legit reviewers.
Zune AV dock is optional accessory. It cost more money. It also puts the total weight near a NetBook. Not something you would carry around normally. In addition, are you going to carry 2 or 3 movies and nothing else?

ummm ok.. Maybe you should read more.
Zune HD Engadget (http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/17/zune-hd-review/)
Zune players have always been known for their stellar audio, and the Zune HD is no exception. Forget about using the included earbuds -- they're pretty much junk. When we tested with decent in-ear buds, however, we thought the quality was rather excellent. Compared to the touch or iPhone audio, the Zune HD seemed to have a wider stereo field and deeper, more resonant low end. Where other players seem crunchy and muffled, the Zune HD feels expansive and open -- like someone popped the top off of a soda can. It's not such an outrageous difference that most people will notice, but those who listen closely should be able to hear it, and we're certainly not complaining about better audio when it comes to the realm of the digital.
This is done to the DAC, or digital to analog converter. Just for fun a university friend of my actually tested the DAC on an iphone/ipod/ipod touch and found them to actually be pretty ... dismal. My ZuneHD is basically now my music player because it sounds soo much better than my iphone. Zune's have always been know to have better quality than the ipods.

That device upscales the signal to 720i. Natively the ipod touch can only output at 576p or not trueHD.

In manual mode, media can be dragged onto the iPod but it won't sync back to the main computer. So if you get music from a different computer, you can't add it to your iTunes library.

Both the Zune and the iPod Touch are DRM-infested pieces of crap and should NOT be supported with your money by buying either one of them.
Buy something that does not rely on DRM. A good indicator for a non-restrictive device is if it works out of the box with Banshee on Linux.

Zune HD = HD radio, more music focused. Windows Only!
iPod touch = Does everything, but then might not be for extreme music enthusiast (that shouldn't apply here).

Ideology does not mean usability.
Other ideology such as communism works in theory too.
I buy physical CDs and they work on my iPod and iPhone, without DRM. OMG, it's sooooo DRM-infested.

if ur looking for pure sound quality then go for the cowon S3 or the S9. the one w/ the oled screen. the zune hd has better sound quality and a better screen as well as beefier graphics. but it requires the zune software which doesn't run on macs. I've used it and it isn't nearly as nice as the itunes software. the ipod touch is the do it all. it has apps, internet access and does music / vids okay on the sound quality.

I think the availability of the App Store makes the iPod Touch the clear winner. But like everything else on this forum, it's my sole opinion and there's really no point debating it.

Touch is the mercedes benz of mp3 players:::::Zune is the hyundai of mp3 players::::catch my drift...what do you want a mercedes benz or hyundai ?
Enough said !Poorest analogy I've ever read. I have both a 2nd (and a 1st) gen Touch. I also have all three versions of the Zunes including the Zune HD.
The Zune HD provides me with the best music experience of any device I own. You'll need to own one to know why. Photos and videos are also far better looking (blacker black/higher contrast ratio) on the Zune HD's screen than the same videos look on my Touches. Add FM and HD radio for fun.
The Touch/iPhone has an app store, and wins for the million different things you can do with apps. I still don't pick it up for Music or Videos or Photo perusal.
Both have browsers. Both have music stores. The Zune HD is carved from a brick of aluminum and feels nicer in my hand than the Touch. Not sure exactly why. Maybe it's less slippery.
So which cars make good analogies? I'd call the Touch a Suburban. Load or tow anything you want with it. Get the 64gb 12 passenger version of you have a big family. It won't be the fastest or the prettiest car on the road. It's entertainment system will be satisfactory. Maintenance will be pricey, as will gas.
There are several cars a Zune HD could be. Not as spacious as a Touch. Not as versatile, yet. It does run apps, but there's no proof yet we'll ever have 100 of them to use. So something with a hatchback, and one hell of a sound/video system on board.
Don't get mad, please. Suburbans are a popular vehicle. They are just a little dated.

Most people here believe Microsoft=crap but every now and then Microsoft does put out a good product and then people here will not even acknowledge it.
I personally like the touch but on the other hand have never used the Zune.

It's not biased to say that from a logical standpoint the Ipod touch/Iphone is much better. The Zune is an amazing piece of hardware, I have a Zune 80. However, with the Zune HD it has potential but the lack of apps and software is what kills it.

In a summary of all this, the ZuneHD and the iPod touch are ... too completely different products.
Microsoft still doesn't really have a definite plan for the ZuneHD. They know they were drastically (like 6 years or so) late the the PMP party so essentially they know they have no hope of ever really taking that market away from Apple. The Zune will continue on as a niche market to people who find its DAC appealing (music quality buffs.. me ..) and microsoft fanboy/techies (people who have an Xbox simply because its made by microsoft).
The biggest question on everyone's mind is, are they going to make it into a phone??? The oft rumored 'zune phone'..
Funny thing is a lot of people probably mistake'ed the device for a phone when it first came out and Microsoft very much hinted at the device as showing "third party manufactures" what could be done with windows mobile 7. Microsoft is still unwilling for some strange reason to just say screw it to third party manufactures and make their own devices like palm, apple and RIM does (the most successful people in the smart phone space currently)
Which leads to further questions.. What exactly is Microsoft doing?? These days on anything it seems as though the company moves at a snails pace. They recently decided (and finally in some respect) to expand the Zune brand into the Xbox with the Zune video store.
I mean Apple has a plan for the touch devices and its a very simple one. For people who don't go along with the iphone, phased out all other ipod devices and get this device in peoples hands as they will buy music and apps. (All sold at a 30% rate to apple).
The Zune on the the other hand is a device that sits on lala land until Microsoft will either decide to actually make it an iphone/touch challenger or finally can the project that probably doesn't even really make money.

I would say as a music player it wins due to Zune Pass. But that is my preference. iPod Touch is still the best all around device though. But for just pure music, I would recommend Zune HD. I still hope for an iTunes Pass. :)

The touch is hardly comparable to the merc benz- it's a
mass produced item made with cheap non-durable-parts. If mercedes Benz cars were of a similar quality, everyone would be going Hyundai.
That said, I do own a touch and like but, but as with all mac products
made today, they aren't made to last long after their 1 yr warrenty expires x

I've been a sole mac owner since 2007. I have a MacBook, threw out my windows pc the day I got the mac, love leopard and snow leopard. I also own 3 iPods: and iPod nano, an iPod classic and and iPod touch.
I was simply being realistic, apple hardware isn't perfect, I've learnt that the hard way. But, my next computer will be a mac, mist likely an iMac. Why? Because apple software IS perfect (in my opinion). I love iPhone os, it's simple and easy to use, plus it looks good, and Im a massive fan of mac os x, preview, spaces, expose, fast start up and shut down. Windows has nothing it.
One thing I can tell you is, I will be purchasing a longer warrenty for my next mac, and I won't be ordering it online.
EDIT: Would just like to add-itunes is the BEST music/ media software manager. I seriously couldn't live without it. The itunes store is where I get my many podcasts, apps, some music AND catch up on a tv episode I may have missed (sure it costs $3 per ep but convenience is worth the price.
I could never change from ipod to zune, sony etc. because of itunes.
Apologies if my posts do seem too harsh on apple. I was trying to present a more fair view (ie apple isn't perfect, but they still make great stuff).
Oh, and no, I've never owned another mp3 player, prior to my ipod it was my sony cassette walkman and discman (up until 2005).

I agree with many of the things you have to say. As a Windows user for years and having worked in repair on and off I can tell you no matter what hardware breaks. Apple is no different from Dell, they both use similar hardware (Mass produced). Nothing can ever be perfect, Mercedes break as much as Honda's do. This is just a fact of nature. Like you said though, the OS is what makes the package for many.
