View Full Version : iSlate/Apple Tablet Mockups and Concepts

Hi everyone!

I'm pretty sure this is not against the rules, as I did not find anything in the rules disallowing it. I thought, with all these rumors and ideas floating around about the iSlate/Apple Tablet, some people might be interested in seeing what they can come up with in Photoshop/GIMP/Pixelmator as far as what they think the iSlate MIGHT look like. I'll start!

I am home for the holidays, and therefore had to edit this image on an iMac in an older version of Photoshop, so excuse me if it's not super precise. I haven't been thinking about the UI as much as the Apple engineers, so I'm unsure about whether or not this is even a viable mockup, but I thought it looked alright either way. Integrated iLife/iWork mobile, virtual home button (hovers over content, hides automatically) and a really robust Notes app (hence in the "dock.") I also think having widgets on the "Desktop" is a neat idea, so I included the iTunes control widget. I also added an iGuide store application (for buying books/magazines/newspapers) and my best try at iChat.

Available here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/peterhajas/4286980569/).

If someone wants to superimpose this onto an iSlate hardware mockup, that would be neat! Besides that, please don't steal this/claim it as your own/claim it as real (ha!)

Let's see your mockups and concepts!

Do not want if the tablet UI is just a jumbo iPhone springboard.

Taylor Swift? :p

Hahaha! I picked up on that too, but I was going to ignore it. :D

So those icons for apps would be double the size of the iPhone ones, or most people's regular icons on their desktop, and you couldn't change their size?

Then they'd forget their current system for iPod controls on the iPhone, and rather than upgrading to QT X controls, they'd go to a QT 7 miniplayer, leaving a hard to use scroll bar without the current scrubbing?

"1 new messag" is redundant. They'd use a red circular badge on a mail icon, no?

Apple has screen estate to play with for the tablet. I could see the doing a pseudo 3D springboard akin to their patents. Just scaling up the app icons would make a tablet look v. cluttered. That doesn't sound Appley. They could do something more like

or see onLive's service for videos (I can see Apple getting on board with onLive soon).

No need for iMovie. That's obsolete, and gathering dust!
iWeb, for a tablet?
Home button is taking the piss.
Sync button, for... what? You think it is like a mac, and you could sync iPhones to it (hence assuming USB I/O rather than the tablet being a 30 pin dock connector style larger iPhone that it itself syncs to a Mac).

I just think the icons of the iPhone won't suit a Tablet. THey could more easily use the iTunes LP style formatting for applications (on the tablet and for the iTablet store) - to be honest the rumours of the super iTunes App store might well have been regarding the tablet store.

People'll get more of a feel when they use mockups that are 10" diagonally. can link/post at that size here. You don't need some things just scaled up. I imagine that's more from doing a quick mockup though.

Lots of food for thought from your picture! Hope i'm not being harsh - I think we basically don't know about OS 4 - Which is unlike Snow Leopard. Bring on the Marble eh? ;)

Just thought I'd comment - I actually nearly nailed it on the mockup. Looks like it is a sized up SpringBoard.app.

Take that naysayers!

a little late on the tablet conceptioning but just something I made up quick.
