Just got home and saw the news about the various updates for Mac Pro, by chance I went to the Apple store looking a Apple Ram upgrades for my 2009 Mac Octo and now they are listing 4GB ram slices.

http://store.apple.com/uk/memorymodel/ME_8CR_3GEN_MACPRO

Now I know I had a beer or two before I went out this evening but I am 100% sure they were not available earlier today, hence my searches involving OCW and Crucial.

So official 4GB support now?

You can get 3 x 4GB sticks from crucial for the same price almost.

IDK why anyone would buy RAM from Apple.

This happened a few months ago. Thanks for bringing it up, though. The price hasn't dropped IIRC, so always best to get it from somewhere else.

The 2009 Mac Pro can use both 4 GB UDIMMs and RDIMMs. IMO the RDIMMs are the better choice as they will work in a mixed mode with 8GB DIMMs.
