Hello,
I am a photographer who just purchased a macbook pro and I am looking for a large monitor to purchase to go with it. I can't afford a Mac Display at this time, but am looking for another brand that will work well. I use photoshop to edit my photos and am concerned about the color and pixel issues in a monitor that in not a MAC.

If you can recommend a good monitor that works well for a photographer who can use with her Macbook Pro along with other cords I might need to make it all work, that would be most helpful. I can't take this 17" any longer, I am going crazy. :(

For the photographer on a budget, I would recommend the DELL UltraSharp 2209WA. It's an e-IPS display that calibrates very well. For more on monitor panel technology and to look up the type of panel in a given display, see this site.
