Hi

I've been struggling to get my Garageband converted mp3's to play at an acceptable level. I've tried boosting the master volume, disabling the auto-vol increase function in preferences, and even amplifying the track in Audacity. I've checked the wavelength graphs, and when compared to a normal sounding mp3, the sound levels are identical. However, when I play the tracks side-by-side, my track is always roughly 20-30% lower in volume. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

my setup

Macbook Pro 2008
Garageband '08 v4.1.2
Edirol FA-66 interface
Shure sm57 / Rode NT2000 mics

Cheers!

This is not an issue with the actual level but rather the perceived level of the audio.

You need to research Dynamic Range Compression and EQ.

This is called the mixing process.

The rabbit hole is very deep ...

Best of luck
