It was shipped with Mac OS 9.0.4. System 7 will not run on it.

Won't work, no.

But if you get a computer old enough to run it, or you want to use it on an emulator, here's a legitimate way to get it from Apple: http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English-North_American/Macintosh/System/Older_System/System_7.5_Version_7.5.3/
