using my imac 27 input for camcorder hdmi?

Hi! I have a question. I just bought today a canon hf200 camcorder that uses hdmi out for playback and using the screen as display. i need a hdmi to dvi converter right?

also, is it possible to use this input to record live for imovie or final cut or it will only work as input for the screen? thank you

the imac has no dvi only display port some adapters are in the works but i don't think any are released yet.
