Help PLEASE!! Mac to HDTV

I have a Macbook and a new HGTV...I want to watch movies etc. from my mac onto my TV. I got a mini DVI-DVI and a DVI-HDMI cords...they plug in fine, but nothing happens....is there a setting i'm supposed to change...or what is the problem?....Help Please!!!

You have to select the input channel on your HDTV which you chose by connecting a cable to that HDTV. Consult the HDTV's manual for proper setup.
