Very pretty, slightly worrying?

Jim, I've sent you a PM.

Looks like a problem with the graphics card. Talk to apple.

If it happens the once I wouldn't worry, GPU can sometimes have "Hiccups" (Windows 7 drivers anyone?) - if it happens several times then AppleCare it is - although you're waiting for replacement so guess it's academic.

It's up to JimKirk though.

I would cry if that happened to mine.

I still think the Imacs are half baked.

This I7 gets very loud when fans are at 1900 rpm.

My laptops don't get loud until 6000 rpm.

Hopefully the replacement will be better.

I also emailed the photo to my contact in executive relations.

My fan gets loud at 1900RPM as well on my 3.06GHz 27". I shut it down and powered it back up and it stopped. I suspect a running process is doing something or maybe a faulty sensor. Only happened twice now.

Similar thing started happening to me about two weeks, first problem I have had since I got the i7 in mid-November. It was happening at least once a day. Called Apple two days ago and she told me to take it in for diagnoses and probably replace graphics card.

It happened three time in about an hour two days ago when I was using CS4, I did the PRAM reset and have not had it happen since.

I would also try running the Apple Hardware Test. Insert the install disc 2 (Applications Disc) and then turn off the iMac. Start it up while holding down "d" on the keyboard. Keep holding it until the test program starts. Then perform an extended test. Let us know if you pass or fail.

thats a high quality display right there son

laptops have smaller fans that need to run at higher speeds to push the same amount of air and thus be the same volume.

They are no where near that loud.

I guess that is the second fix for the flickering that is rumored.

I declined since it has only happened once and my replacement is on its way.
