The drivers that came with 3.1 are 188.61, the newest available on nVidia's site are 195.62. Is it safe for me to un-install the drivers that came with bootcamp and install the newest nVidia ones?

Absolutely. In fact, it's recommended- the 3.1 drivers are pretty old. I've been installing them since Nvidia started offering "notebook" drivers and have never had an issue, and pretty much anyone else here has done the same.

Yeah I noticed they were quite old, installed the new ones and everything's working great. Also, I must say how impressed I am with the 9400M, quite beefy considering its integrated and not dedicated.

are you all running nvidia's installer without any issues? I have a 15'' unibody mbp with the 9600M, and the nvidia notebook driver installer always fails to recognize my graphics card and quits.

there is another thread on this but basically, if you can't get the official nvidia installer to work on your hardware/OS, the best thing to do is go to laptopvideo2go and either try one of their premodified inf files/drivers or follow instructions their to modify one yourself

it seems to work for people (i never got it to work for me but im not very bright :p ) fortunately for me after i changed to win7 64 the official installer started working (imac with 8800gs)
