I was just wondering how many dot com or dot net domain names other people own, so how many do you own...
I only own 6 .com's and 1 .net

You can get an .edu for free, but you need to be accredited.

Depends -- Register.com is $35/year, but I know I've seen cheaper. Where you register your .com can be problematic, though. Some registrars have been known to "lose" domains.
On top of that, you've got to pay for hosting. Usually some kind of hosting is included with your ISP, but .com hosting tends to cost a little more. A "budget" option is to do a redirect, available from places like dydns.org.
Dave
P.S.: I have two domains, commontext.org and wordmunger.com

I have two .coms
how2mac.com
pvito.com
I used networksolutions to register. I like their DNS options and I think they are around $35/year...
I got one static ip address from my cable company and I use an upgraded B&W G4 runnig os x as a web/mail server...

I just registered my first domain name last week... just something that's going to be a private web site I can post pictures/video on for my family. :)
I got it through vizaweb.com... if you sign up for a year's hosting service the domain registration is free, and the price on the hosting is great too.

I think I own 4, can't really remember since 3 of them I don't do anything with.
jeremyron.com
geckoscript.com
mavasoft.com
willinois.com
I'll third the vote for GoDaddy.com, but I have also used MyDomain (http://www.mydomain.com) because of their powerful DNS management tools - it's easy to setup your domain to point at a webserver in your home, if you have static IP (or even semi-static like mine).

I only own Mapache.org (http://mapache.org). I have my registration through NameCheap (http://namecheap.com), which is $8.88 / year and subcontracts from eNom, giving me access to things like instant DNS updates. I've heard too many problematic stories about GoDaddy to worry about saving less than two dollars a year.

I have a few of my own and some I do for clients. itsyourdomain.com is a pretty cheap place to buy a domain. netfirms.com will host your site for free if you don't mind a banner at the top. They even allow FTP access. I use them for my personal/just for fun sites.
www.digitaldoodle.com collection of my digital drawings
www.retiredcameras.com collection of my antique cameras and other camera related items.

I've got two domains (although I ponder getting new ones every now and then).
pyrotoaster.com
and macunderground.net (I wanted .com, but some domain hoarding company based in the Cayman Islands owns it).
It's just useful to have them (I've used them both for various sites), and they're really cheap to keep.
I use RegisterFly to manage them and they were only like eight or nine bucks, and the site offers all sorts of management services. I use domain forwarding to point pyrotoaster.com to a site on my iDisk.

No, I can't.
I don't have a need to post pictures on the intrnet/blog/offer files for download/iDisk
If I needed to do any of that that stuff, I can just ssh to my computer and do it that way.
As for email, my hotmail account is fine, so is my Gmail one.
I guess I can t justify $100 a year, when I can already do most of that stuff.

I've just got three of them. One is a personal site, one is a business that I was thinking of starting but haven't got around to yet, and another is a personal site for my little bro I'm setting up. I've used GoDaddy for all of them, and it's been pretty easy to maintain with them.

because im under 18 legally i dont own anything :(....but i am the admin for nusuni.com (which i pay my parents for every month).
Just recently some company called up for ME and claimed I owned some crazy domain with them. I explained to them that they are very incorrect and I have only been the admin of 1 domain in my life, and that is nusuni.com. We talked on the phone for at least 40 mins until i finally yelled at the idiot. AH yes that wus a big deal, he knew my name, address, phone number, etc. The funniest part is they claimed I bought the domain back in 1998. Jeebus christ, i wus only like 8 or 9 in '98. Companies are sooooo annoying nowadays.

I'm under 18, but I bought my domains with a Visa Buxx card (which acts like a regular Visa). So technically, I own my domains (although I don't think I told RegisterFly my age, anyway).

Actually no offense but have you read the laws. Legally by federal laws when you are under the age of 18 it is impossible for YOU to own anything. Legally parents own all your assets until you are 18 (which means if they take somtin outta ur room or wutever, you cannot sue them for robbing you), and are responsible for you until you are 24 (this number changes depending on what state you live in, however).
Just ask a lawyer, they will say the same exact thing.

Well yes, I know that legally I can't own anything yet. Practically speaking, I do "own" it, though.

I love having a web-site....it's mildly entertaining while I'm bored, and I get to post some of my writing.

5 personally -- 4 .com, 1 .org (always wanted a .net, too, so far no need), plus two for the family, and a couple for clients.
The only really interesting one I have is animeworld.com (got that one through a stroke of luck years ago when a squatter let it lapse; I always wanted animeworld.net, too, but didn't take advantage when I had the chance).
I'm consitering buying some more to resell, I found good dot coms names unused. You know, at this pint they're probably unused because nobody wants them.

no kidding.
But I've seen edesignuk (I'm going off of memory, sorry if it was someone else) advertising asmallorange hosting, and they seem to have really good cheap deals. The higher priced ones aren't as good of deals IMO.
I use iPowerWeb which I've liked a lot so far. $7.99 a month I think.
Bought the domains using GoDaddy.
