is the stock wd 640gb a caviar black? does anyone know ?

Are you talking about the one in your signature?

If so you can look at Disk Utility and get the model number. A WD Caviar Black 640GB would be WD6401AALS (http://westerndigital.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=551).
