Imac Novice--Sony DVD into Imovie

Hi,

New Imac and one of the first things i tried to do is edit some home movies that i have copied from VHS-C to my new Sony DVD-HDD recorder.

I gather now it is not easy :(. What is the easiest way to get these in to Imovie for editing?

Need some experienced help...would be most appreciated.

In what format are those videos? The format is the last three letters/numbers e.g. .avi or .mkv. iMovie doesn't support many formats so you may have to convert them to another format.
