New Application Announcements?

More like [expected] [news].

Real's going into their competition mood. They're not going out of business anytime soon. There are sites like amazon.com that rely on Realplayer files for streaming demos, and others for radio/video streams. They're not going out of business.

Good to someone with some sense. Real's not going out of business anytime soon. I found a poll on a site the other day, it said something like "will Real succeed against Apple?"

- Yes, Real will win
- No, Real will go out of business

But what about "No, but they'll stay in business"?

They're not profitable and I don't know if their other ventures will keep them afloat or not. But I do know I'd rather have Real in second place behind Apple than Microsoft (or any WMA store).

'Helix Server Starter,' Real's entry-level server, costs US$2000, plus another $800 for 'Essential Support.' They're definitely getting some money from their servers, even though they're giving away the clients for free. The other servers will undoubtedly cost even more.

The most basic server from Real is still free (http://www.realnetworks.com/products/evalservers.html).
