hey guys i have an imac 21.5'. i bought the mini dvi to vga cable and connected it to my samsung 46a650. i was wondering what i need to do now to make it so that the display only shows on my tv. i would like my imacs screen to turn off while i'm using my samsung as a monitor.

If your TV has the same resolution as the iMac (1920 x 1080), you can mirror the iMac's display to the TV, and then maybe use an add on like Shades to turn down the brightness of the iMac display.
Have you taken a look at MRoogle to search for similar topics?
Also the iMac has a mini DisplayPort video output and not a miniDVI video output.

21" iMac can run a second screen at 2048 X 1600, waaaaay more than your 46" TV
