Hi,
I have a 24 inch imac and i am connecting the viewsonic VG921m (19'') monitor using the mini-dvi port.
The external monitor appears dull (whites have a yellow tint)
Is there a way to match up the display to look like mac?
I am using the monitor next to my iMac and its currently distracting as its displaying same colors in different tone.
Any help is highly appreciated!
Thanks

Hey spinnerlys
Thanks for the reply ... I tried that ... but still does not help! There were 5 steps ... but I think I got it right only couple of times ... will try again.

You could try to find colour profiles for that external monitor, profiles that work with OS X of course.

This is a very difficult thing to do with software. To get close to the same colors on each monitor you need to get a hardware calibration system. I use a Spyder3 , around $100.
This is something many graphics professionals struggle with and they use very expensive equipment to accomplish getting an office full of monitors to look exactly alike. For your use I think using the Spyder3 will probably get you close enough.

I have a Pantone Huey.

You would be amazed how yellow Apple's own profiles for their own monitors are too!

Excellent suggestions all ... thanks a lot ... but I think it would be overkill for my requirement ... I was thinking I might be missing something fairly simple ... For now I am using my system primarily for programming and other daily tasks ... so its not all that crucial to set the same tone across the two screens ... its still a little distracting sitting in the corner of my left eye :) ... However soon I am planning to learn photoshop and a 3-D software ... I am sure these things will come into effect then ... thanks again ... learnt about these new toys I was not aware of :)

You could try to find colour profiles for that external monitor, profiles that work with OS X of course.
By the way I did try this ... options I have on the monitor are
sRGB
9300K
7500K
5400K
User Color (where I need to set the RGB explicitly)
None of the profiles is getting a close to the iMac white.
I am beginning to wonder is the glossy screen on iMac making the difference? Or maybe its just that the monitor is not as good as the iMac display ... The monitor model is Viewsonic VG921m Tech Specs -
http://en.kioskea.net/guide/details/746475-viewsonic-vg921m-black)
and here are the iMac 24 inch display tech specs -
http://support.apple.com/kb/SP507
Things like brightness, contrast and pixel response time are all different (if not superior) in Mac than in Viewsonic.
Does it look like the reason enough that Viewsonic might not be able to match iMac display no matter what?
Just wanted everybody's thoughts on this.
Thanks
Devang

change the settings of the monitor itself , have done the same thing on the monitor connected to my eMac , calibrated the monitor to match , every monitor i know has a menu button press it and play around in the settings until its matching ..took me ....15 minutes to match exactly the emacs screen in color , contrast, brightness, color temperature and sharpness

Also note that this could be because of a bad cable or maybe some defect in either the monitor or your mac. Does other monitors also appear yellow when connected to the mac? Or does the monitor look the same when connected to another computer?
