This may seem odd, but I think my iMac is melting. I started to clean my iMac with a simple cleaning cloth then i realized spots on the screen. The aren't really visible when the screen is on, but you can still kind of see them. Not only that, the quality of the images on my screen seems to be deteriorating. It is only visible under light. I have attached some photos, but i wanted to know if anyones iMac has done this before(regardless of size, but post it in case), and if apple will fix it?

I bet they'll say you did it and refuse.

This looks more like some unknown manufacturing defect rather than melting

And relax: They're pretty good at dealing with screen issues (at least, with the 24" models) - I got mine replaced no questions asked without them even seeing the problem.

If you're in warranty, you just need to stand your ground. Don't give in to "we don't replace etc". It's BS

Ok thanks for the advice. Ill call them later. BTW do you think they can replace it over the phone? (like via a ship in thing) I have a BTO model so I don't know if they can even give me the same model.

They'll only offer a Courier collection service if you have Premium AppleCare.

No. If you're within warranty, they'll send a courier to collect it. You only have to put it in a box (that's what they won't provide)

Again: They'll only force you into a corner if you let them. Explain you're [n] miles away from an Apple Store or something along those lines (if you genuinely are. Otherwise just take it in of course) Generally you can push the conversation into them compensating you for fuel/transit for getting it there. At that point, they will certainly offer a courier (if they don't already. I don't recall explicitly having to fight for collection on the phone)

Overall: they're a niche premium product. Your word of mouth = their $. If you're making sense and not being threatening on the phone, they'll work something out. You just need to stay cool

I have a BTO model so I don't know if they can even give me the same model.

Mine was a BTO also. I got lucky though - I had my 08 machine replaced just as the Jan 09s came out, so rather than faffing through getting the same spec 08, they just gave me the equivalent 09 machine (which was awesome). I'm not sure what happens otherwise though.

I know you said you just used a cleaning cloth, but did you use any liquid with it? Windex will make the screen look blotchy, and very well could make your screen permanently damaged.

No, just the cleaning cloth that came beside the keyboard. And i did hear about the windex thing thats why i decided not to use my Monster Cleaning Liquid(I hate monster products, but this was free with my tv)
