View Full Version : Sign of HDD failure? Logic Studio 9 loop files disappearing?

From time to time, looking for a specific loop, I will type in a partial name and get the obligatory list back. For example, there are over 20 "80s dance bass synth" variants, 24+ "80s pop beat", 6 disco tracks, 17 didgeridoo elements -- I've had to reinstall the whole application because, sometimes, 80s pop #17 or "80s dance bass synth" numbers 1-14 magically disappear.

I've also had to, fairly often, use DiskWarrior to check up the hard drive. Only the main drive is affected; the backup drives never have any errors.

Diskwarrior claims it's able to find all the data, but obviously I cannot believe that.

Should I plonk down $100 and get a replacement hard drive?

Its hard to say for sure, but I really wouldn't trust that drive. Personally, I'd keep that backup up to date, and go order a new one off of Newegg. Since you have a Mac Pro and a backup to restore from, the swap shouldn't be too big of a deal.

Thanks. :) I did go out and buy a new HD (1TB)... but I do have an update:

Post DiskWarrior, I rebooted into OS X 10.6.2. Running permissions verification, a ton of folder and file entries were wrong. All of them were in the library folder under audio, pertaining to Logic Studio.

I will do an uninstall of Logic studio, HD transfer (1GB vs 640GB!), then reinstall. I'm hoping this will resolve the issue.

The new HD is a Western Digital Scorpio 1TB drive. 7200RPM. The old one is a Hitachi 640GB.
