I use a program called Quicksilver to access little apps that I need occasionally, but don't want to go searching for yet aren't worth the dock space.

Quicksilver is the closest thing to what I hope Spotlight is like in terms on transparency yet functional.

Excellent cool feature! I've never heard of it either... although I can be astoundingly ignorant, so 95% of the Mac population might already be actively using this.

This is one of those that I'd seen before, but had forgotten about. It's handy for those applications onto which you'd typically drag something (Like FileType for example) since they'd be available in any window you have open.

Note also that you can simply drag the application without any modify keys and hold it in the bar for a second until the green + sign appears and it stays there. This works for applications, folders, files, etc.

It also appears to work with connected servers, although it turns to a ? when you log off from the connected server. It appears that it will remain a shortcut that if you click on the ? it will reconnect to the server.

Edit: If you view as icon and text (either through View Options or ctrl-clicking the window bar) it will show you the server name.

Are you people serious? This is as old as....well.....I don't know, but this feature has been in OS X since I can remember. The first commercial release I think. Wow you guys/gals need to do some more exploring.

True, this has been an OSX feature for quite some time.
When Apple released 10.3 they tried to shift focus to the sidebar instead.
Although the sidebar can be quite useful, a huge header still remains at the top of Finder windows so you might as well use that space, I say.
I realize you can shrink the header by removing the search box and the other items, but I use those and they can't be placed in the sidebar, so there's plenty of real estate for more aliases.

This is old news. I've used this feature in Mac OS X 10.1 (never used Mac OS X 10.0 or the Public Beta).

I saw that and it rang a bell. From what some of you have said, i think i remember them showing that off when os x was young, but back then i paid little interest to os x because i was still using os 9 for some reason. Anyhow, I think this feature is really usfully, although, my dock isn't full enough for me to need to free space ect to end up using it a lot. But i'll give it a go.
