What is your screen model#

go to system preferences > display > color tab > open profile > scroll down till you see "mmod" and read the model number of your screen


I have a week 5 unit with yellow tinge and my screen model is 00009CB5

i am just curious if the screens are getting replaced in the new unit to fix the problem or something else is going on.

I doubt the screen will have a new part number. Just LG fixed the issue and sent Apple the defective free panels.

apple store has a new part number, I was there on Sunday. They said the latest replacements screens are coming in, with a brand new part #. Watch out for the dreaded black blurred bar. Don't let them sell you another defect.

FWIW, no yellow that I can see - but maybe I'm blind. Regardless, I'm not fretting it, since I can't see it. When I get a bit more time, and my camera back, I'll post pics.

I hadn't heard of anyone else getting a "black blurred bar."
The first iMac I got (week 53) had a horizontal bar about 1"-2" high stretching across the entire screen a few inches from the bottom. It was fairly faint, but noticeable on any pale background. Is that what you're referring to?

I have minimal yellow, evenly across the screen, unnoticeable. it doesn't bother me but if these new panels work for everyone else I'm going in for a swap.

For anyone who cares to answer. Why doesn't anyone just calibrate the screen for the slight yellowing? I've seen people here on MR with countless posts about calibrating washed out screens that Apple put on the original aluminum Macbook. But for the 27" iMac, I've seen no posts about simply calibrating it before going through all this trouble sending multiple machines back.

Calibration does not work with isolated gradients. It will only work if the "whole" screen was affected. Adjusting the color to offset the yellow will not hide the isolated "yellow" part of the screen and there is no way to isolate the adjustment just on the affected part with the simple screen calibration.

because it's a graduated yellow, where the bottom is the most yellow. if one tried to compensate for the yellow at the bottom, then the top would be too blue.

Not to open this endless discussion, but you must be careful before deciding that you got a yellow screen problem. No question, real yellow problem screens exist in vast numbers (and we've all seen pictures). However, it is also easy to think you have a yellow screen when in fact you don't.

Here's what I mean: most people look at the center of the screen at 90 degrees (straight on), however, when they look down to the bottom of the screen, their eyes look at it from an angle. That angle translates into a "yellow" effect. You can try this out by simply squatting down and lowering your head to keep the 90 degrees the same as when you looked at the center of the screen... often the "yellow" will disappear.

Anyhow, I'm absolutely not saying it's not a real problem - it most definitely is. I'm only saying that for some folks who think their screen is "marginally" yellow - make sure you're not subject to illusion due to angle of view.

My Week 53 had the exact same issue. Almost like a dark wrinkle in the screen. It also had a very faint yellow tinge. I returned it today.

Many monitors have this, including my 23" ACD.

It's one of the backlight that is not 100% functional like the others.

I agree, it's too bad. But when a company like Apple boasts about their screens as having a "...perfect picture with superb colour consistency..." then, you will get a lot of complaints from customers with subpar screens.
