Hello,
This is my first post on macrumors ^^
I have a white unibody macbook (late 2009) which i loved <3 but now this is the second time i am having this problem, some keys and the palm rest are turning yellow >.<
The first time i experienced this problem, I went to the apple store and the genius told me that nobody is complaining about this problem, that i am the only one that was experiencing it, but they still decided to change the keyboard + cover.
I got it a little more of 2 weeks back and the keyboard is again becoming yellow, and the right palmrest is already turning yellow. This time i bought the iklean (or whatever its called) and wasnt of much help.
Is anyone else having the same problem?
about me: i'm a gamer so i use the W, A, S, D, ESC, enter, and arrow keys a lot. And i use the computer more than 5 hours a day. And no i don't smoke or drink coffee (well thats what the genius asked me the first time i went there, i even had to change soaps because thats what they were blaming.....)
Thank you so much for reading this, and i would be happy to get any replies :D

I had a bad experience with those.
The genius used that on the first one and scratched the case like crazy (he was being rough on it since the yellow stains didn't want to dissapear). :(
The yellow stains prevailed tho :(

First off, they would never use something like this.
Second, either you live in a dirty house, have people that smoke around you, or work in a dirty office. It's all about the atmosphere.

They actually used it..... I was right in front when they were scratching it with that big sponge >.< They told me to use it too.
Second, my bf (we live together) owns a macbook (non-unibody white one) and doesn't have the same problem mine does. And the problem is on specific keys and on right side of trackpad. If it would be due to a "dirty house" or "dirty office" it would have random patches around the case.

tenshinoneko, I'm sorry to hear about the yellowing issue :(.
For what it's worth, the Apple Store does use Mr. Clean Magic Erasers. Apple recommends them to Apple-Authorized Service Providers, as well, for cleaning white plastics. They are magic.
tenshinoneko, perhaps you could get a new Magic Eraser, apply a small amount of iKlear to the Eraser, and use moderate pressure. It won't scratch your computer if it's new and there's no dirt on the Eraser.
If that doesn't help, I'm a bit out of ideas. I've seen quite a few of those new MacBooks but I haven't seen any yellowing at all. Good luck!

awww thanks fluffyx ^^
yeah i guess my problem is due to playing Final Fantasy XI online on it. since i have to have my fingers all the time on the W, A, S, D. I've tried to clean it with the iklear but it doesnt help much =(. Today i took it to school for my programming class, and I was able to notice all the stains because they use white light bulbs (my house has that yellowish light bulb)
And like i said before, my bf owns an old non unibody white macbook and i have played on it too and never had white stains on the keyboard, nor on the case.

I have the same model and haven't noticed anything like that. I've had it since right after Christmas, and had it uncovered, no kind of cleaning agents, anything, just a microfiber cloth to get off prints until last week, when I noticed it was getting palm scratches from my sleeves and whatnot so I got a bodyguardz protector kit. You can buy it in pieces or cover your whole Mac for $50 and they replace it if you ever need a new one.
That's what I'd recommend to keep the trouble from spreading, but that sounds weird that it would yellow. Supposedly they fixed the issue with the yellowing plastic a couple models ago?

I bought my 8th grade son the unibody for christmas. He takes very good care of his equipment, and this afternoon I was helping him clean the screen.
Then I noticed the palm rest, and the front right (by the sleep light) is turning yellow. It is very noticeable, and very curious. He obviously does not smoke, nor use any chemicals on his hands.
It almost looks like the heat is discoloring the plastic in this area alone.
I am going to take it in to the store and see what they have to say.

Some people have more acidic sweat and oils than others. This can contribute to the yellowing you are experiencing. Don't know if there is anything you can do short of wearing latex gloves :)
