Actually its not a great price.
All the software you are offering doesn't count unless you are transfering licenses.
And You can get a new loaded 15" with ed discount for about $2000.
Your powerbook is worth about 1700 shipped TOP I'd say (w.o software).

Seems like a reasonable price to me.
What's with all the price ragging lately? It's like a rash. Where's that Caladryl lotion...

No, its not a bad price for a 17" model. Not at all. Someone who wants a 17" model but can't afford to buy a brand spankin' new one may like this deal, well....unless there's a better one off eBay. ;)

Yeah... this isn't a *bad* price... but it's not great either. I'm sure you could find one for about $200 cheaper.

This is with 2 more years remaining on Applecare, so it doesn't seem all that terrible. Software included don't mean much unless he actually has lincense and copies that he is including, and if he is saying that the PB is in good condition, this sounds like an excellent deal.
Of course, I would never buy this. For $200 more I can get a good 15", however, Applecare is another $249(edu).

What's wrong with you people... the 15" has...
The 17" is a different monster.
And all the currency talk... please. Our dollar is only worth as much as our over-inflated American egos.
If I was in the market for a 17" PB, I might consider... but I have used my brother's on a plane and it is very uncomfortable.
On my Desk, however, it was pure madness! I loved it.
Back to topic: this may not be a bad deal for the right person. Stop being mean.

You guys, telling me my price isnt good because you can get a 15" on an edu discount, ...well isnt telling me much of anything. You cant tell me my 17 is overpriced because a 15 is cheaper. Well duh...
And for the record, how many of you actually qualify for the edu discount? Not many I'm sure.
And for the record, I did get a 12" 1ghz powerbook, bluetooth, airport, 40gb hdd, and superdrive, pristine condition. And $450 to boot. So someone obviously saw the deal in that. And for your information, YES...ALL SOFTWARE LISCENCE WAS TRANSFERED.
Now .......about all that foreign currency?

Actually from my understanding is that if you are a "student" at a college you get it. To be honest when I saw your post today, the difference AFTER Applecare was in the range of $600-800, not counting the software you mentioned. I came in late, but we had not seen that we get the original disks.
I ways also confused by all the comments about the 15". I saw that you mentioned the 17".
So in the end i got disks for ALL of the software, and everything else was up to "snuff", I might consider it.
Don't sweat it. You had it much easier than other "newbies" here. We are a tough crowd.

"Oooh, I can get a 15" for cheaper!" Really genius!?! Whoa, sharp crowd we got here at MR.
But hey, for those who wanted a 17": is this a good deal? That should have been the comparative point, and it sounds like it was a good deal after all. :)

I've seen tough crowds but this might be the stiffest. It usually happens when a newb comes in and offers a good price. On the 17" model with it's current specs, the 1.33 is going to run around $2100 and that's a fair deal and they really don't go down much from there. I'm glad this guy found a buyer because it really was a pretty good deal, software or not. People should also not generalize things by talking about student discounts because not everybody is a student. All students are included in that, If you learn...you're a student.

Did you two eat paint chips as kids? The product has been sold.
And if some are "in the process of doing so", then why wouldn't they consider this deal? And "thanks but no thanks" would imply that this product is still for sale. But once again, if the umpteenth clue given to you hasn't sank in yet, the product is sold.

For everyone's peace of mind. I did sell it. I got the 12 inch 1.33 and $450 cash. Turns out some of my media was lost during the last few moves and setup of my office, but thank god I'm a winDOZE tech. Every cd gets imaged on my server along with a sticky note of the serial. Multiple copies, no worries I say!
Anyway the buyer was local. Showed him the laptop and the software I did have and he almost died that I still had it. Couldnt pay fast enough. So I got what I wanted, and so did he.
I think the point that someone was trying to make is... you guys keep saying " I can get it cheaper on an edu discount." Well, the point we were trying to make was that not all of you QUALIFY for the discount. Apple does make you QUALIFY for it. That means that by definition, someone will NOT qualify for it. Not everyone is a student or homeschooling their kids. So, either way, that argument doesnt really count. I cant believe the ....honestly, shazzbutty assed RUDE emails I've gotten just trying to sell a laptop. People offering me 1200 for it, trying to convince me that I'm stupid by setting the price so high, etc....and then when I do show an ounce of brains, they get even pissier about it with me when I politley tell them thanks but no. Like they're doing me a favor by trying to rip me off.
I'm sorry, I know its just a few that ruin it for the whole. But this whole expierience has left a bad taste in my mouth with posting on MAC specific forums. Everywhere I posted, I got nothing but lip, attitude and whatever else you guys want to call it. You want to razz a new guy? Thats fine. But honestly, it does drive some people off.
Mac people have the reputation for being friendly, open, helpful people. I have yet to come across someone locally involved with Macs that are anything but. When someone new comes here to post and you guys just rip him like that....thats worse than just plain rude. I seriously believe that most of you guys just dont have any manners. You all just think its ok to just smack a guy in the face first time out. I do post in other forums around the net, and most all of them are pretty friendly when you first come in. People welcoming you and such, and even if they dont, certainly not ripping you up on a sales post, treating you like a dummy.
You can say what you want. I'm sure some of you will have great fun responding to this. I just thought I'd give the perspective from someone who didn't quite appreciate the welcome.

This is a pretty closely knit community, and when somebody comes in with an ALL CAPS FIRST POST/THREAD trying to sell a computer it's like a stranger barging into a house party, trying to sell flatware.
MacRumors usually welcomes new members without much grief, but we're only human and can't be expected to be totally welcoming to somebody just trying to make a buck off a CRAZY XTREME 1 DAY SALE!!. Get a different name and login with some grace. You'll see that we're a lot more than lip and attitude.

I posted regularly at a forum where everyone knew me and almost became a mod, so coming here and dropping that board for this one is just an indication of how good this forum is (most of the time).

We were all newbies once. Even the most respected members had to start somewhere. edesignuk, JSW, King Cobra, were all newbies, and so was I, all of you reading and posting too. Were other members rude to you when you started? Ask yourself that question. I know i was welcomed with open arms, and am very happy to be part of this community. To Bishop, make a few posts in other parts of the forums, and change your status to 'Member' usually they get much more respect in forums.
Welcome to Macrumors, and i must apologize for the rude buggers who have posted previously. We are not all like that.

Bishop I am very sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction with the forum here and when I witnessed what was happening to your thread I created this thread (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=86571) in response to the general problem sellers and buyers have been experiencing. To let you know, there are a set of rules here for the marketplace and you can read over those here. (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=30505) If in the future you feel someone is breaking the rules with their response you have the right to report that user, the post is deleted and the users are usually warned or if it is a repeat violation they are banned. I hope you choose to peruse the rest of the forums as you will see there are some very good people here and some terrific discussions. Most members can be quite helpful when needed and to be honest I don't recognize some of the people that responded to your post so I am assuming they are not active members in the community.
Take care Bishop and congratulations on the final deal you received, albeit off the forums.

I still don't see what all of the fuss was about. $1,800 for a 17" PowerBook with 2 years of Applecare remaining was not an outrageous price to ask. While the car salesman speak was a bit strange, the responses afterward were even more so. Why rip him saying you can get a 15" for less? Of course a 15" is always going to be worth less than a 17" so I'm not sure where all that came from.
