How common is this? I prefer darker backgrounds and this may be an issue.
I'm over the yellow and the buzzing, but this too? Don't take me the wrong way - I love my Macs but I can't say I'm crazy about this..
See attachment. Ignore the image noise, the big spot that bothers me is on the top to the right.

That is far better than the 3 I had.
You will never get a perfect one.

Am I being too anal about it? I've just never encountered something like this before.

Well, if I am watching a movie in 16x9 on my iMac, and there is backlight bleeding through one of the bars, that would distract me terribly.
When did you order this machine?

Is that a screen shot of the brightest setting?
If so, darken the brightness a bit and you should be fine.
I notice a tad of bleeding but not anything to worry about. :)

Contact apple, but wait until they have more in stores before exchanging it. (If it bothers you - I would probably live with it)

- It's at its brightest setting
- I don't watch movies on this, so that wouldn't be an issue. I do like darker backgrounds and this may be a problem, maybe not.
- I will contact apple and see what they say. But I won't be able to exchange in store because they don't stock the i7's

A 16:9 ratio film will fill the display without letterboxing. Other ratios will letterbox.
To the OP:
My display (27") has backlight bleeding too, probably a bit worse than yours, but I've tuned it out (i.e. I only notice it if I look for it). I'd only get my display replaced if the could guarentee no backlight bleeding, or significantly less bleed than what mine currently has. I don't like pot luck repair work.
