New Beta of Google Chrome for Mac Now Available

Google today announced the release of a new beta of Google Chrome for Mac, adding several new features such as extensions and bookmark syncing that were left out of the initial beta released in December while also focusing on a "snappy, safe, and simple browsing experience" for users.
With this new version, you'll be able to install any of over 2,200 extensions (and counting!) currently available in Chrome's extensions gallery. Extensions can add useful, informative, fun, or quirky functionality to the browser. You can manage your extensions by clicking on the Window menu and choosing "Extensions."

Bookmark syncing allows Chrome users to keep their bookmarks synchronized among Chrome browsers on Mac, Windows, and Linux machines. Also added in the new beta are bookmark, cookie, and task managers for increased functionality. A new video preview of Google Chrome for Mac has also been posted.

Yay!

I d/ld Chrome last week after some users here were praising it. It really is a nice experience, I've just made it my main browser. It doesn't hang on me the way FF or Safari does, so that's pretty much all it took for me to warm to it.

The designer themes are great too, check those out if you haven't already.

It is nice that Google is still catering to the Mac community despite the recent animosity between Apple INC, and Google. In other words, they are not offering the community crippled versions of their software in the same likeness as Adobe.

that mode where it doesn't add things to the history or cookies is a little weird. my automatic thought was the kids being able to look at porn without it being recorded. interesting idea, but where are they going with it?

I love the address bar in chrome. It doubles as a google search, as well as offering site specific searching.

I'm using chrome as my primary browser....I have 2 complaints. One is that when I navigate 'back' it doesn't go to the spot on the previous page I was at, it goes to the top of the page. I really dislike that.

The other less annoying aspect is that when I close a tab, it doesn't go to the tab I was previously on...it goes to the tab adjacent to the one just closed.

Noticed Chrome had upgraded earlier - when it was suddenly no longer running and I had to try and remember the 10+ tabs I had open!

That doesn't seem any different from Safari's Private Browsing feature.

I use that at work so I don't get my history all clunked up.

Its a privacy mode, Safari has had one for years. Yes, its for surfing the web without your history being recorded, be that for porn or anything else.

Is there any way to "not" have the logo of the website show up next to each bookmark?

The big news here is not extensions or synchronization, but the fact that after 2 years there is a usable version of Chrome for the Mac thanks to the addition of a bookmark manager.

Firefox's "Awesome Bar" was basically a rip off of Chrome's Omnibox, so yes. Most people seem to think Google's works better anyway.

Incognito windows have also been part of Chrome for at least a year now, on PC. Just about every other browser has since added or talked about adding such a mode.

If you had switched to the developer preview channel for Chrome you would have had these features many weeks ago without any noticeable bugs :p

Is there a decent ad block yet? In past experiences with Chrome, nothing compared to Adblock Plus for Firefox.

Damnit. I just saw that Google still grays out the full screen option. What's up with that. Option+Shift+ F. Why have it there but leave it disabled. I like the full screen feature in Chrome. Much better than the usual maximize. :mad:

I've noticed some bugs already. Memory leak for starters.

Guys, I don't want to sound like a mean person, but I heard that anything you do on google chrome, will stay on their servers for life. I don't have anything to hide, but I wouldn't want chrome to know every word I typed on the location bar,or any URL. Just letting you guys know. My computer/forensics professor taught me this. Besides, probably many of you guys don't really care. Fine by me. All I know is I will wait until google clear this out.

UPDATE: I went to the google privacy section, and here is a tip on how to deselect the "Automatically send usage statistics and crash reports to Google" checkbox. http://www.google.com/support/chrome/bin/answer.py?answer=96817&hl=en I'm still not sure if this would make any difference, but it's better than nothing.
