I think you can still get the old style, wired, "mighty mouse".

They do. It's called the Apple Mouse. I know, It's almost as brilliant as "iPad".

However, do not be fooled! It's just the Mighty Mouse under the new guise.

But you asked about the Magic Mouse, not the Mighty Mouse

Yea, basically. It was due to some copyright laws of the "mighty mouse" name.

I still can't believe they still sell it though, considering how bad of a rap it has gotten over the years. I'm guessing adding a wire to the magic mouse would disrupt its otherwise perfect design aethetic.

But it would be greener - less batteries in landfill.

That's what's stopping me from buying one. A piece of wire is a compromise I'd be happy with.

Same with me. I thought the Magic mouse would have a built in battery that you plug into the USB port of your computer to charge. And while its charging you can use it as a wired mouse:D There are some mice like that:D

Hmmm. You've given me a idea. My wife has a magic mouse. I need to have a look to see if I could hack it to take power from USB. Maybe I can cut the cord off an old wired mouse and use that? I'm not too bothered about making it rechargeable - it's probably beyond me anyway, exploding batteries, and all :)

Sounds like a weekend project!

A wired magic mouse is like a unicorn without a horn.

Besides, there are such things are rechargeable batteries...

I would LOVE for Apple to move to this, or at least provide an optional docking station accessory for your mouse, although that might be a bad thing considering Apple's high prices for minuscle accessories (I'm still trying to fathom the USB power adapter for iphone/ipod priced at $29.99...).

But yea, Logitech for instance, have a great variety of high performance wireless mice that use USB connected docking stations. Before I had Macs, I used to own Logitech wireless mice and I really loved being able to just dock at night before bed and forgetting about having to replace batteries. It was very convenient.

Anyway, I think Apple's obvious direction in eliminating as much possible wiring in their machines conflicts with that idea though, and adding a docking station would still have to use a USB cable. Well at least until they start developing wireless charging :D

True, but they're a pain in the neck and don't last very long - or at least they don't in my old wireless Mighty Mouse. That's the one with the wee ball that gums-up all the time.

Charging and changing batteries is a drag and yes, I admit it, I'm lazy.

Yeah, all you need to do is remove the battery and stick the wire of an old wired USB mouse into the place where the battery power connects with the mouse :D

That exists, though its quite short range and weak, so not yet ideal. And the main thing is that it emits radiation which isn't good for you. And it makes it worse if its in a mouse your going to be very close to. For more insight into that matter read this article I wrote a while ago:

Not necessarily. Remember how the old Apple remotes used to stick "magically" (with magnets) to the side of the white plastic iMacs? Why not do the same with a mouse and have an inductive charging loop under the Mac's casing? It could be behind the plastic apple logo on the front - so you just "stick your mouse on the apple" overnight! Maybe it could glow blue while it's charging - you know, for extra tackiness! :D

There, solved!

I actually thought about this too. Really, there are a number of places Apple could potential build a docking station or port on the iMac. They could place one the stand's foot, but without the mouse docked, it would detract from the design with the connectors.

Yea, the back would be the best place probably. The blue is tacky indeed, and might be the thing to attract the PC enthusiasts over to Macs

Unfortunately, I don't think Apple's ever done blue lights, so I wouldn't expect them to start now. So far, they only like doing green, amber, and white.

A wired magic mouse would convince me to buy it. I hate wireless stuff.
What's the deal eliminating 1 ft of wire? And I have to think of batteries, antennas, moving 2 cursors with 1 mouse, batteries...

By the way, the magic/apple mouse has been pretty good to me, once you know how to clean it. It is lasting more than 3 years so far, what's so bad about it?

Nothing its just that people are always expecting more... Even if they don't need it.

I'm one of those that don't really like the magic mouse, mostly because it's size but also because I really prefer a wired mouse. After some digging around I settled for this one, a Razer Pro Click 1.6.

http://www.pasarit.com/catalog/images/razerproclick16.jpg (http://www.razerzone.com.br/products/gaming_pro_solution/click_16/)

It looks good together with the mac, and has quite nice specs - click the image for more details. I'm very happy with this one to replace my Magic Mouse - maybe it doesn't look quite as good but it's a joy to use and I get the extra side-buttons that are really useful (mapped the to things like exposé, "back / forward" in Firefox and such). I would recommend it to anyone looking for a wired mouse for their mac.

yes i am also no fan of these battery or accu changes ,i hate my mobile because i have to plug it in to charge , best thing is my toothbrush i just have to stick it where it belongs and its charging automatically (induction) so why apple is not able to implement this technology for keyboard an mouse is beyond me for example the imac has such a ideal foot to place keyboard an mouse on, so why not make it charging them , no more battery changes , no more accu changes , no more wires, no more docking stations battery chargers and things like that around

because as long as it does not work like that i stick wired , they dont fail ,have a puk mouse and it sill works perfectly my pro mouse also works perfect.... so why the hassle with wireless mice which need charging always when you need them most

I wish there was a wired version of the Magic Mouse too. I also hate the rails on the bottom... there's too much friction and when you click down, the back end tends to lift up making the mouse do a nose-dive and also making it harder to drag things.

I wish they'd make the Magic Mouse the same size, shape, weight as the Mighty Mouse and add a wire and remove the scroll ball and add multi-touch.

Even though I turned signatures off, yours is manually placed into your post so I can't hide it. Can I just say that you have the most annoying signature on this entire forum? Woof, woof? Really? Yeah, we get that your user name is MacDawg... do you need to say woof woof every time and have a .gif image of a couple of paws? Is that supposed to be cool or something?

I really wish you would just post like the rest of us instead of having the same tiring thing in every message you compose.

Thanks.

It would be nice if apple provided a dock with rechargeable batteries for their wireless mouse. Something like the higher end logitech mice.

Knowing apple they would probably sell it separately for more than the mouse itself, but it would still be nice.

Agreed. I've always wanted to say something about it, but I've held back. I'm sure there are more of us who feel the same way.

Also, it's against the rules.

I like "wired mice" and "wired keyboards" as well. Especially since I'm into desktop computers and also have small kids. Small kids and "wireless" things (that can be easily carried away or hidden `as a joke`) is a bad combination. Thus, "wired" items for me as well. Especially for much better keyboards with a side numeric pad.

Like you, I seen a few other folks who don't like the Apple mice units either. Was surfing Youtube a few weeks back and found a lady who loves her non-Apple mouse much better. She had her many reasons for loving non-Apple mice and non-Apple keyboards. She had some valid too......

For me, I too will get "wired" mouse and "wired" keyboard for my future iMac 27".

Wireless mice and keyboards can also be lost easily by mistake since they are not attached to the computer. And they have no real benifet. Other than save USB ports... I don't think I'm ever going to f around with wireless stuff lol...
