when i was in the US Army in Vicenza they warned us about the crappy electric current and to have a good surge protector. i never bought a good one and never had a problem.
i use a few $40 APC surge protectors at home. used them for years and never had a problem. unless you need a battery backup for work purposes, don't waste your money

Check here (https://www.apcc.com/tools/ups_selector/index.cfm?action=build_form_a&device_type=workstation&app_type=workstation&showChassis=1&showMonitor=1&showProcessor=1&showVoltages=1&showIntDrives=1&showPeripherals=1&showPrinter=1&appUsed=basic&showHardDrives=1&cgi_referer_check=&return_query_string=) for sizing, but 800VA or larger should more than suffice.
Keep in mind, the purpose of a UPS is to allow for a graceful shutdown, not to keep working. Also, I discourage running laser printers through the UPS, as the current draw on those when cycling for a print job or cleaning will generally trigger alarms in the UPS. Not fatal, but annoying as heck.

.
I have an APC LCD 1300VA Backup UPS connected to my computer system. Yes. Over kill but it was "on sale" - at 50% off. Bought it the same price as a 650VA unit.
If you can last a while, do keep an eye out for "on sale" 800+ VA units (usually 4 times per year). Then, decide which UPS model is most affordable. And, use saved dollars for different computer add-on - like an external HD - for critical data backups using included Time Machine.
As stated above, Backup UPS units are great for "graceful" auto shutdowns and for filling in the "brown out" electric dips - that many surge protection bars cannot do.
Hope this helps...

I've had an APC UPS (not sure anymore if it was the SmartUPS or BackUPS) but I was annoyed with it as it seemed to want a new battery every year and half or so. I replaced it about 6 months ago with this (http://www.amazon.com/Cyberpower-CP1500AVRLCD-UPS-Display-8-Outlet/dp/B000FBK3QK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1266011312&sr=8-1) and it has been working great. We'll see in the long run.

I have a Cyberpower AVR 685VA 8-Outlet UPS on my 24 in--may be a bit too small for the 27. Flawless in the 2 years I have owned it. Maybe some are fortunate not to have to deal with power interruptions but if you live in Florida, it kind of goes with the territory.
