View Full Version : Intel iMac ram slot faulty?

My iMac stopped working yesterday, it was in sleep mode, I moved the mouse and click.. Nothing. Did the usual checks of fuses and leads then reset (5 seconds with the power lead out) I then got the one second flashing light that signifies bad ram/no ram.

I have two banks of 1g, I took the lower slot out (the lower one with the screen face down) it then worked, so I took the ram from the upper slot and placed it in the lower, again nothing but when I put it back in the upper slot this time there was nothing. Could the lower slot have damaged the ram? Has anyone else experienced this and is it fixable?

Luckily I had an old 512 stick left over from an upgrade.. This is now in the upper slot and everything is working fine. This is the only ram I have left so I'm loathe to try the lower slot again to diagnose the fault.

Any advice appreciated thanks.

Alex.

Yea, sounds like the slot it faulty. You can buy a 2GB stick and put it into the working slot and have the same amount as before
