Hi there

I am looking for an Apple Powerbook G4 to trade for my PC. I am a digital artist / electronic music producer and I need the portability so I can play more gigs and work on my art when I am not at home.

I am looking for either a 15" or a 17" book, with a 1.5 Gigahertz CPU, at least 512 MB DDR333 SDRAM, 80 GB Harddisk, 128MB video memory, DVD/CD-RW combo drive (would prefer a superdrive with DVD-R), 802.11g wifi card (airport extreme), and all the other normal features of the Powerbook G4s.

In exchange for this I am willing to give up my pride and joy, my current studio computer:

Intel P4. 2.66 GHz Processor
Asus P4G8X Deluxe motherboard with GigaBit LAN, Onboard 5.1 sound, S-ATA controller
2048 MB (2 GB) PC-2100 DDR RAM (Running Dual Channel)
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128 MB Video
Sound Blaster Audigy 2
80 GB Seagate S-ATA HDD
LG 16x DVD-ROM
LG 52x24x52x CD-RW
3 1/2 inch Floppy
Antec 550 watt Power Supply
Antec Tower with 2 fans at rear, side door with lock and key, removable harddrive bay.
Dual (2!) Proview PRO558 15" LCD monitors @ 1024 x 768
802.11b wireless nic

If you are interested in this swap please contact me at pcpowerbooktrade@gorfed.net and I will reply to you as quickly as I can.

I will also be keeping an eye on this thread.

Thank you.

Sorry, buddy, but not many people are looking to buy a PC on a Mac forum.

You'd have better luck on a PC forum, eBay, or a local deal. Then just buy a refurb off Amazon or Apple.com.

Yea i agree- selling a PC is not gonna happen here very easily- the dual 15" LCDs are appealing though :)

I was bored and went to price watch and looked up everything that you listen in the system, then priced it. So that people would get an idea of what they were receiving if they went ahead with this guys deal. If I have made a mistake with anything, be sure to correct me.
Mother board: 250 (it was 220 on price watch)
CPU: 160 (Cheapest 152)
RAM:180 on two sticks of 1GB RAM (it’s dual channel right?)
Video card: 70 Dollars
Sound card: 90 $
Hard Drive, (80GB) Seagate serial ATA:70
DVD-Rom Drive: 30 $
CD-RW burner: 30 (faster LG burner than the one in his system)
Floppy drive, Sony: 10
Anatec case and 550 power supply: 110 $
2 Flat panel LCD 15” monitors: 700$
So that’s about 1800 just in parts, so lets add about 120 for shipping. 1920 $ now.

If I paid say a gaming place, oh 200 dollars to assemble the system parts and load win2k
(add 100 for the OS) and money to pay the guy,

your grand total for buying the system that you have now, new would be
2220$
that is an ok difference, regardless if someone is selling it slightly used. I would consider offering some money to go along with your system however, maybe to make it more enticing.

it’s 2450 for a new PowerBook with those tech specs that you listed earlier. if you have a Discount for say education, then you might be able to just sell your comp on Ebay, and get a reasonable amount of money

Hey everyone, thank you all for your replies...

I also owe Steradian a very big thanks for taking the time to find out the value of my system... Something that I should have done before proceeding with my original post.

The prices seem about right, although I have not taken the time to check them myself.

If whoever would be willing to trade with me thinks that my offer is not good enough, I would definitely consider topping it up with a bit of cash.

If anyone knows anyone who would be interested in either purchasing this pc or trading it, please let them know about this thread.

People trade PCs here all the time. And if he just wanted a simple trade arrangement, I don't think a PC forum would have a lot of Mac users. ;)

So the ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128 MB Video is only $70, and the LG CD burner is only $30 now?? Geez, it seems like yesterday when this stuff was 3x more expensive.

Yes, actually I believe some of those prices are a little lower than they actually should be, namely the radeon 9700 pro. Though I am having trouble finding the price for that particular model.

Anyway, I expected some negative comments when I decided to post here. It is a mac forum afterall and I would expect that you don't take kindly to newbies, and even more so a PC user. Haha.

I'm sure there is somebody out there who is interested in this trade. Come on people!

Eek, this doesn't look very good then :/

I still have a bit of hope...

Anyway, out of curiousity, how do you get the student discount on a new mac? Does this offer only apply to US students?

I was hoping gorf would double check the ones that were a bit odd.

If you are not a US student, you should look at your local Apple store or Apple website. Most of them do offer student discount but you need to provide proof of your student status though.

I have a 15" Titanium Powerbook 1GHz, 512Mb Ram, Superdrive DVD+-RW, Airport 802.11b, that I am getting ready to sell. I upgraded to the Aluminum 1.25GHz, so I need to sell my Titanium PB.

I use it for all my Graphic Design, Web, and Video Production work. It works really well.

I'm not in the market for a PC, but I could part trade, part cash for some of your system. (and you could sell the rest on ebay or something). I know this isn't what you are looking for, but I thought I'd let you know to give you more options if no one helps you out with a full trade.
