Here's the deal. I just got my Mac not too long ago, and I had ripped a lot of music to my old PC before I switched over. I did a lot of audio editing and often ripped music to .wav format so that I could edit it. I am picky about my audio, and after numerous comparisons and tests, I have decided that the LAME encoder works best for my needs. I have a LAME encoder plugin for iTunes, which is great, but now I am looking for a program that will compress raw audio files (.wav or .aiff) to mp3 using a LAME encoder.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

In iTunes, import your WAVs into your library. Select the LAME plugin as your encoder. Select the WAV files in iTunes and ctrl-click them. Click convert. That will convert them using LAME (I think). Convert uses whatever encoder you have set to convert the files you select.

Don't forget you can select multiple files. The best way to group them, is to go to view options, and turn on the bit rate colum, and click it to group all the WAV files.

Check out LAME 3.96.1 (http://www.rarewares.org/files/mp3/lame_3.96.1_OSX.zip)!
Its the latest stable LAME build, compiled for Mac OS X. ;)
