Come now. We talk about anything gaming related even though it says Mac Gaming Forum. :)
Everybody seems to enjoy SOCOM and SOCOM 2. Logged the most hours for any console game. In fact, more hours than all of the X-Box Live games put together!
I enjoy playing Madden with my friends online.

At one point in time (when my xbox was in for repair) I contemplated buying a PS2 in order to play Socom 2. I'd say Socom 2 is the best PS2 online game, even though sony's implementation of online play is lacking...

Look, Microsoft may suck at operatng systems, but they know how to make web services. Xbox LIVE and .NET are very very good services.
Anyway, Xbox LIVE blows Sony's online service away! You have a unified friends/mute list between games, the ability to send invitations to people playing other games, voice chat, the ability to report positive/negitive feedback, content downloads, auto-patches, system-upgrades, and soon, Video Chat.
Oh, and voice communication is standard for every Xbox LIVE game.
Now look at Sony's service. Servers are hosted by individual companies, there is no unified friends list (each company has it's own service, meaning different buddy systems for each company's games, if they bother to implement one), lots of drop outs (so I hear), very few patches, no content downloads yet, no chance of system upgrades, and the only Video Chat service, isnt live (you record a message and send it to someone), and is being used for porn.
And, by the way, Xbox LIVE costs a fee to use, but it's ok. Your starter pack contains the Xbox LIVE software (which can be downloaded through ANY Xbox LIVE enabled game), a 12-month subscription card, the headset, and a unit that plugs into your controler to provide a headset connector. The latest version of the starter kit also includes a full copy of Crimson Skies (which sounds really good).
When your 12-month credit runs out, you pay a monthly, or yearly fee, it's your choice. Or you can go buy anouther 12-month credit for something like 35-dollars from Target, or some place like that.
Also, some games include a 2-month credit, but it can only be used to create an account, not to extend one. So get a game like Rainbow Six 3 (which has a 2-month credit (and the limited edition contains a headset that whips the official one's ****), and use that credit to create your account, then use your 12-month credit to extend that.
The credit comes on a card, with a panel that you scratch off. Scratch the panel off, and no more refunds.
And if you don't have an Xbox, well just get SOCOM II, Rainbow Six 3, and Pandora Tomorrow (Splinter Cell 2). Oh, the Xbox version of Rainbow Six 3 and Pandora Tomorrow, are much better than the PS2 version.
Get an XBox.

The only time you get a decent online experience is when the game allows only players that use broadband. The dial-up users lag it up... Even on broadband, it sometimes lags.
