ifoAppleStore reports (http://www.ifoapplestore.com/db/2010/02/19/another-state-added-to-store-list%e2%80%94idaho/) that Apple is planning to open its first retail store in the state of Idaho, which will become the 42nd state in the U.S. with an Apple retail presence. Apple's first Idaho store is reportedly set to open in Boise as early as September.Far out and left out. That's the way Idaho residents have felt for nine years without an Apple retail store. Now their laments will end with confirmation of a future store at the Boise Town Square shopping mall along Interstate 184, west of downtown Boise. It will be the first store in Idaho, whose residents have had to drive to one of the other 41 other states that have already received an Apple store. The other eight states currently without at least one Apple retail store are Alaska, Arkansas, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

I am studying at Washington State University which is about 10 minutes from Moscow, ID and the University of Idaho which is an Apple reseller. They carry all the Apple products and even offer repairs so its not as though Idaho has been Apple-less for the past nine years and they're about to see the light. Granted their repair service is terrible and their sales people know absolutely nothing about the products they're selling.

Expercom in Logan Utah (just over the border) is a Mac reseller, and for years before Expercom was the one of the only Apple resellers around Salt Lake, for the exception of MacDocs, and (cough) CompUSA.
So although it's had 'connections' it's nice to hear Apple isn't ignoring them out there in good ol' Idaho.
*Now we have a SimplyMac in the SLC area... avoid at all costs it is a terrible experience... PC' guys thinking they know macs... travesty!

I've lived in Little Rock, AR for the past 4 years. After moving from Long Island, NY, with 4 Apple Stores all to itself, it has been pathetic trying to find anything past the small niche in Best Buy. There are a few decent sized malls here that Apple should look into. Too late for me though...with any luck, by the middle of this year, I will be moving up to Massachusetts with a whole boat-load of Apple stores in the area!

Hey neighbor! I live in Moscow, and didn't know until recently that the UI Bookstore offered repairs (Apple doesn't list them online or even have them in their system when calling AppleCare).
I haven't used them yet, but its nice to know there's something closer than 6 hours away.

They honor warranties for repair as well. Be careful though, we brought my wife's MBP in for a trackpad repair and they messed up the backlighting on her keyboard and wouldn't do anything about it claiming that it must not have worked when we brought it in. Frustrating. I had to disassemble it myself and reattach the cable.
I also called to reserve a copy of Snow Leopard and they said they had plenty and weren't taking reservations for it. I show up a couple hours later and the manager tells me they were out and I should have reserved a copy! haha.
I just expect poor service when I go in but to get products it works. I got my copy of iLife 08 for $40 because they lower prices when they can. So maybe it all balances out.

SWEETNESS! MacLife just opened a new 2nd location in BoDo. Gotta be expensive real estate. MacLife has always had outdated products at premium prices. They even temporarily lost their rights to carry iPods (unconfirmed rumor). I'm stoked to have an official apple store. More competition is always good for the consumer. Thank you Apple.

I also heard they had lost their rights to stock ipods. Competition is great, they will either have to get their act together or go out of business;). The :apple:store at Boise Towne Square is going to get a lot more business than Bodo or Overland Maclife locations hands down. The ninth level wizard that owns Maclife is not going to be to stoked when he here's his monopoly is over and Steve and Company are moving into town!
Going to be so much easier than having to go to either Salt Lake City or Portland for an Apple store!:)

There are no cities in Vermont, according to the government. I think of Barre and Montpelier as cities, after all, they have almost 10,000 people in them. Even Burlington with about 39,000 people doesn't count as a city by official government standards. This is why Vermont, state with no cities, is considered the "Most Rural State" by government standards.
We have higher populations of dogs, cows and sheep than people.

I cannot believe Apple delayed/postponed the Little Rock store (for whatever reason). It was announced as the FIRST store in the three state area of Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas nearly three years ago, yet it has yet to open (New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Jackson, MS have since opened).
While I understand LR isn't the focal point of the universe, it is certainly larger and more affluent than many markets Apple is already in...

All you Apple Store haters just don't get it. This is indeed a wonderful day. No more dealing with MacLife!!
I'm sad to say I bought my very first mac (1GHZ TiBook) from MacLife, but I never went back. Since then I've bought all my Macs from CompUSA, or more recently Best Buy. Even went to a Portland, OR Store for my PowerMAC G5 back in '05.
MacLife is a truly horrible experience. Both service and sales are absolutely, completely, 100% atrocious.
I remember when the Shuffle first came out. I went to MacLife to pick one up, but they had jacked the price up 20% and justified it by saying it was because they were so hard to find. I wasn't about to pay more, so I went straight to CompUSA and they had an entire display of them for regular retail price. I bought two. :)
See ya, MacLife. It's too bad that they spent so much money on the new store downtown. I predict it will be closed within the year.

Spo-tucky had an independent All Apple products retail store that failed a few years ago.. Don't know why.
The iGun is fully semi-automatic and made from aluminum, very light and stylish. It costs $5845. and shoots 43.56 caliber bullets that cost $5. each and are available only from Apple. It comes in a handsome presentation box.
The Apple Store also stock stylish holsters for only $399.
The owner must take the gun to Apple for cleaning and maintenance as it cannot be taken apart without special tools, and to maintain the one-year warranty. Note that the warranty does not cover damage caused by actually shooting the gun.
Available to minors only in blue states.

Someone really needs to talk to Apple about opening up a store in Alaska. They should talk to Coach, who when they opened up, the store become the number one selling shop in the chain... even outselling their store on Rodeo Drive! They should talk to Target... same thing happened. Speak with Dairy Queen... ditto. I could go on and on about how surprised managers are about customers buying power up here and how it happens to every single store that opens up here.

What is the population of Coeur d'Alene?
2008 2000 1990
Population 43,360 34,514 24,563
Source: U.S. Census Bureau, 2008 Population Estimates, Census 2000, 1990 Census
In 1971 when I was last there, it was more of a small town. It's really grown since then. Maybe it could support an Apple store now, but maybe not. We have towns larger than this with no Apple store within 50 miles.

Last Tuesday Apple opened their first store in Eldon Square in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne. This is the first Apple Store opened in the North East of England. The local press reported massive crowds at the store on opening day.
There's now 26 Apple Stores in the UK. The first Apple store in the UK opened on London's Regent Street in 2004, so the number is growing rapidly.
Obvious UK omissions so far include The MetroCentre (http://www.metrocentre.uk.com/) (Europe's largest mall), Edinburgh (capital of Scotland) and Heathrow (http://www.heathrowairport.com/) (the mall with aircraft parking facilities).

We have two Apple stores within fifteen minutes of each other but I honestly don't see what's so great about them. It's not like they do a great job helping you out and everything that has ever happened to any of my Apple products was never covered by Apple's warranty anyway. I might as well just dump what breaks in the recycle bin rather than pay Apple's exorbitant repair fees.

I was about to post this. Spokangeles is getting an Apple Store! Who wants to bet that tweakers will start knocking the place over within a week of opening day?
Mac Odyssey went under due to some problems with other business partners (not due to a lack of sales), but I'd rather not go into that. Strong Technologies opened up last year (and from what I heard, at the behest of Apple!), but will now have to compete against a corporate retail store, which is not an easy thing to do.
There's also Macxprts in Post Falls, but that place was set up in a shoebox (seriously, no more than 10x10 for the service area, if that) and...well, let's just say I haven't heard anything positive about that place or the lady who is managing it.

Thank god. Even though I work within walking distance of MacLife, I avoid it like the plague. I have been there once, asked a few questions about Final Cut Studio, got attitude like I was bothering them, and I left, never to return. I have purchased all my Apple products online since then. September is about the time I will be making some significant investments in post-production equipment so that would be prefect timing.

Micron/Crucial (although heading downhill) is Boise based as well.
Exactly, I'm really rooting for Crucial, though.

Yep, MacLife sucks, I too avoid them like the plague. I went in there to pick up a Magic mouse a month or so ago, and they acted like I was some kind of loser for not already having one, and not knowing that they don't have any in stock. I buy online, and avoid them like the plague. I'm looking forward to having an Apple store.

I have to admit that, while I would much rather have an Apple Store to deal with that MacLife, I have actually had pretty good experiences with MacLife. I have noticed a bit of an Elitist attitude there, but nothing beyond the norm in the Mac community.

South Dakota needs a retail store, as the closest stores are the Twin Cities, Omaha or Des Moines (3+ hours any way you slice it). I work for a reseller down here and it would put us out of business, but I also have worked at a *Retail store in the past.
Come on Apple, give every state in the US at least one retail store!

Yes, I have an account at Maclife and have bought there several times. Very inconsistent service. A few times I have had good service and someone was actually nice and helpful. But the other 20 times I have received terrible service and attitude. They are so not Boisean like. No need for this type of attitude. It is really sad. And as much as I would like to continue to give my business to them, I will not with an Apple store local. Sorry guys. The apples do not fall far from the tree.:(

The sad thing for MacLife is that the quality of their service doesn't really matter. They're not any cheaper than an Apple Store, so if given the choice to go to one or the other, most people are just going to go to the real Apple store.
MacLife is in for a world of hurt, justified or not.

Forget Boise! Let's put one up in Coeur d'Alene (/Spokane) in North Idaho :p we have nothing up here! The closest Apple store is Portland followed by Seattle...
I second this! I'm in Spokane. Six hours to Seattle or Portland or Boise...

As I noted (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=9320063&postcount=58) earlier, you've got one on the way.

My friend said that there was an article in the Spokane Review that there was an Apple Store coming to Spokane! I found some places where there was reference to this article. Go to, http://matthewpaul.posterous.com/apple-store-possibly-coming-to-spokane-apple

If they offered to sell guns in the Apple store they probably would have gotten one earlier in Spokane/Coeur D'Alene (tongue in cheek)
Agreed. Spokane would be a good location to cover the inland empire. Could even tap some of the Montana and Tri-City, Wa folks there.
Amen! We need one in Spokane!
We need you up here Apple! The closest Apple Store is 6 hours away in Seattle! Come to Spokane if you want, but I know probably 100+ people that ...
Hello Neighbors! (I live in Coeur d' alene and go to Boise all the time)... We used to have a 3rd party Mac store here in Coeur d' alene off Highway-95 (near Appleway), not sure what happened to them.. Spokane surely has a few, no?
Does the UPS truck come through Coeur d'Alene?
Coeur d' alene is actually around ~35+K and Kootenai County is 135,000. 20 Spokane, WA (<30 minutes away) is 400,000.
On a side note, Coeur d' alene has been growing like crazy in the last decade. A lot of people from California/Arizona/Nevada/Utah have been drawn by the beautiful lake, ski mountains, and (once) cheap housing prices and are turning it into a ritzy summer tourist locale.

Is anyone here planning to go to the opening? I might. The mall is a bit far from my house though.

I wanted to, but I didn't find out until today that it opens Saturday, and my entire day is booked solid. I'll probably swing by Monday, though.

Obviously, you've never been to an Apple Store.
Haha. My sentiments exactly.

I drive through Boise about once a year. Would be nice to visit the Apple store. I live in Yakima WA which is about 4 hours from Spokane and 3 from Seattle. I really hope Apple decides to bring a retail store to Yakima in the near future. We have a third party retailer called Efcom which has terrible service to say the least...
