I can't re-format the drive and reinstall Tiger because DVD1 is scratched.

I'm prepared to get Apple to ship me a new disc (at my cost) but want to know if there is a way that I can completely and SECURELY remove all personal files/data settings etc. without re-formatting, so that the buyer doesn't have to wait any longer for the machine.

Not 100% for sure.

You can create a new user account (admin) and then delete your account. This should get 90% of stuff.

The go thru the system level libary folder and look for caches, preferences, etc.

If you want your name removed the from apps you installed & registered, you may need to remove/uninstall those apps.

When done you can use disk utility to "Erase Free Space" to prevent recovery of the files.
