on what app. i could use to convert WAV to MP3

i've only seen a few available for OS X
but i definitely want something FREE

That would be iTunes...

Put it in your Library... find it in iTunes, Control + Click it, select "Convert to MP3"

newbie to macs here. is there a setting in itunes that deletes the wav files as you convert them? can you convert files directly from the music folder in the finder, similar to right mouse clicking on a pc from windows explorer?
