Is there a program or thing I can do to share apps between my iMac and Macbook?

I have heard of cloning the HD as another way of doing it? How does this work?

Is this even legal?

What do you mean by share? Do you want to use them on both machines? If so just install them on each one. Of course, it may be in breach of the licence.

Just transfer the application to the other computer via whatever method you want. Sure, if it's a single license app it's not exactly legal, but nobody is going to come and get you for it.

If the original app had an installer this may not work, but if it's like many Mac apps, just the application to drag/drop into the Applications folder, it'll be fine.

Just read the licenses very carefully. Many applications allow you to do what you describe. For example, Adobe allows two installations, one on a desktop and one on a laptop, so that you can use one while mobile. They do stipulate, however, that you can't use both copies simultaneously.
