My band recorded an album 12 years ago, and I recently came across the original reels of Ampex 456 tape.

I'd like to remix the album and add more "low end" to the the final mix. Is this something I can do on my G5? on an MP? on an MBP?

What software program do i need, and is there a suggested hardware set up , i.e. multiple drives, Raid, Ram , etc. ?

Logic Studio would do it I think.

It's expensive though.

Just a thought: if you have no idea what you're doing, you're much better off spending the money taking it to a professional mix engineer and having them do a good transfer and mix.

Good point. I really don't have any idea what I'm doing - I'm a drummer after all- but am wiling to try. I thought it would be something basic like isolating the bass track and cranking it up. Maybe not so simple, eh?

What do you think a remix service would cost on a 40 minute album?

Recreating the mix should be half the fun unless, of course, it takes me dozens of hours to learn the software and dozens more to do the work.
