I currently use transmission but it doesn't like to play well with VLC. When I run anything at all on VLC (mp3, movie, anything) the files playing will constantly skip or lag. I turn off transmission, and viola, it works.

Anyway, I do love Transmission but a buddy of mine says Vuze has been working great on his mac.

Anyone have any experience on both of these programs and why you choose to use that certain one over the other?

Thanks 🙂

That may be due to a slow HDD, as I can run Transmission and play video files without lag.

What HDD do you have and what Mac do you use?

To find out go to Applications / Utilities / System Profiler > Hardware Overview

MBP intel core 2 duo, 2.4ghz with 4gb ram. running snow leopard 10.6.2

hdd is a fujitsu MHY2200BH (5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" SATA 1.5Gb/s)

Have you taken a look at Activity Monitor and seen what process might hog up your CPU or how the Disk Activity is while you use VLC and Transmission?

Don't forget to select "Show All Processes".

ya, everything seems normal. ive also tried to freshly boot up the mac, start transmission, then start vlc player. still get the same issue

Yea that happens on my MBP as well with Transmission. I used to use Vuze and I still think it is more feature-rich than Transmission, but it was to much of a resource hog.
