Good question, I've often wondered that myself. Also, how do you... isn't a great name for a discussion as it doesn't say what it's about.

(On ifixit you name URLs like this: [www.whichappleproduct.co.uk|Which Apple Product])

Click the little link button above where you type. Add the URL and click ok then chane the bit between the "" to just have a name. The name will show up not the URL.

google (www.google.com) looks like *URL="www.google.com"]google[/URL*]

sorry should be leave the bit between the quotes. Obviously removing the stars!

Describe the link in your post, then highlight the description and click the link button http://forums.macrumors.com/images/editor/createlink.gif and paste the link there.

Click the http://images.macrumors.com/vb/images/editor/createlink.gif button on top of the text field, enter/paste the http address.

example [_/_URL_]

It looks like the above, just without the _ in there.

And a more descriptive thread title allows you to ....

To edit your thread title, just click on the http://images.macrumors.com/vb/images/buttons/edit.gif button on the bottom right of your original post and then click the "Go Advanced" button below your message.

The following is taken from the thread titled "How to maximise your MacRumors troubleshooting experience (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=205018)" created by mad jew in 2006. It contains more elaborate information on the short extracts I took from it and should help you in finding appropriate help. I also made some additions after finding that thread.

Search for threads or guides containing similar problems.
MRoogle (http://mroogle.edesignuk.com/) is quite a good tool to search these forums.

Start your thread in the appropriate forum or sub-forum.
Here (http://forums.macrumors.com/) is the forum's main page with the list of all the sub-fora found here.

Use a specific thread title.
"Need help!!!!???? ASAP!!!" and its variants are not specific.

Find and post machine hardware and software configurations.
You can find out more about your Mac by going to the Menu Bar > :apple: > About This Mac > More Info ... (this button opens [U]Applications / Utilities / System Profiler) > Hardware Overview.

Tell us your problem, and be specific. What is happening to your machine?
What Mac OS X version and what Mac do you use, ... .

How long has this been happening? What changes were made just before this started?

What have you already tried?

Respond to all posted advice with details of what happened.

Be wary of the (very) occasional bad advice.

Be patient.

Be courteous.

[URL_=_"http://www.apple.com"_] example [_/_URL_]

Just for fun, I'll add to your maximization by pointing out another fun tag. :)

The NOPARSE tag acts as a container for text that should not be parsed as VBCode.

Any VB codes like [B] or
in here will not be parsed

Also, if you want to see how any post was created, just click the http://images.macrumors.com/vb/images/buttons/quote.gif button and look at what's there. When you're finished looking, just close that tab or window, instead of clicking the "Submit Reply" button.

Thanks, I wondered how GGJ could do that.

Why do you have to use instead of ?

EDIT: I see, to not hide the first . Stupid me. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4040/4381979822_012f588691_o.jpg

Technically, the opposite -- so you would see the second noparse. :)

Are you sure it's not late/early? :D

Oh yes, I'm sure. It's early for me, but late for the day, and as I come first every day, the day comes second. But it is not really a day, it's more like the night, as I work in the dark hours (preferred to the ages of course) of the 24 hour period we assigned a long time ago to the circle of rotation.

I'm getting abundantly confuse right now. Time for another parcel.

If you want to save arn two bytes of disk space, omit the quotes. The Insert Link http://images.macrumors.com/vb/images/editor/createlink.gif tool puts them in but in fact they aren't needed.
