You can (if you want) check out a beta version of Microsoft's music store, MSN Music (http://beta.music.msn.com/).
First impression--nice layout. I like the web interface (can't load iTunes on at work, but would like to browse it sometimes. Identical usage rights to iTunes (5 computers, etc.). 160kbps WMA, sure its WMA, but 160kbps might sway some people.
Cons--preview song only works in IE (not sure if works for Mac and PC, only tried on PC). Found some album-only style purchases in just 30 sec of random browsing. I don't think I have ever come across that in iTunes. Not Mac compatible, but has the nerve to write an entry in the FAQ about the iPod and how Apple doesn't want to share. :mad:
I looks pretty good overall, but I think that Apple is doing it right with the HP deal and the affiliates program. Should be interesting to see how well it does when it launches. So far I haven't seen anyone start off anywhere nearly as strongly as Apple.
