I bought an i5 iMac 27 from an apple store which after 16 days has stopped reading CD's.

I've called Applecare and they've told me to take it back to the store - I have a genius bar appointment this evening.

Question is this - its outside the 14 day return policy - should I be entitled to a complete replacement? Thats what I want and what I will ask for - not sure what the legal stand point is.

As this seems to be a defect with the product, it should be covered by applecare. They will either be able to fix the problem or replace it (I think)

Hopefully someone else can confirm...

I called to report a problem at 15 days and was offered a replacement iMac right away. If you make a big enough issue about it , they might replace it.

On the other hand, if everything else is good with the iMac, why take a chance of getting a replacement that might have dead pixels, blotchy screen, noisy hard drive ......
