White Steam/Smoke behind iMac Glass?

Hey Guys
I've owned my 24" imac for just coming up to a year this month. Model before current 27" model.

When I woke up this morning I found in the lower right corner of my imac this STEAM/SMOKE behind the GLASS! I was like WTF! I wiped the front of the glass thinking it was on the front but then discovered it was behind.

I took some photos and unplugged the imac and went to work. Ive now arrived home and discovered it has gone but am concerned if it might return or even worse worried my imac might catch on fire. What do you guys think? Has anyone seen this before?

Sounds like condensation...and yes....there have been reports of it here before.

Call apple, if you didn't throw water on it it's totally not your fault and they should cover that kind of crap out of your apple care

OP:

Is it hot or humid in your home? You can purchase dessicant (AKA dehumidifying material) for the house.

When I lived in Japan, we would always buy these pint-sized cups of dessicant that we'd place in closets or corners of warm rooms. If this wasn't done, mildew and moisture would begin to appear in odd places.

Be prepared for Apple to not fix this, as they may claim that something like this is beyond their control. I'm just saying (so don't beat me up...just offering some knowledge)...

If you're out of warranty, grab a few suction cups, pull the glass off, and wipe the condensation off. Will take you no more than 2 minutes.

Fix the problem, not the symptom.

You have a room humidity/temperature problem.

I bet if you bought and ran a dehumidifier in the room where your iMac is located this problem will be cured.

Also place the iMac away from any heat/ac vents and/or windows as much as possible.


EDIT: I just opened up my brand new 27" iMac and was pleased at the size of the desiccant packs it shipped with. Apple really made sure humidity would not be a problem in shipping.

Definitely looks like the same condensation on a couple of previous gps units I'd use on my bikes. After a while in the sun they'd clear up but still. Too much humidity I think.

This is no ay the same issue as the "smoke / black blothches" problem that has been discussed in multiple threads over multiple forums. It does seem like a humidity issue which I cannot imagine Apple will cover under Applecare.
