Hi folks,

I'm hoping someone can help me before I open up both computers. The fan on my 06 macbook ran incredibly noisy for about 6 months and has now kicked the bucket (no amount of cleaning helped either). As a result my laptop now turns off fairly frequently when it hits its temp ceiling.

My girlfriend has a water damaged macbook she bought in June 2008 and I'm wondering if I could use the fan on it to replace mine. Does anyone know? I can get more specific about her model if it matters.

cheers!

I don't think they will fit. Apple changed the internal layout a few times over the years. Check out ifixit.com for finding out stuff about that. I think they cost about US$42.99 for a new one.

www.ifixit.com shows two different fan models...

The first is for the CoreDuo (2006 model) and late 2006/mid 2007 model. The second is for the Santa Rosa/Penryn models.

Yours is part of the 2nd group, so no...you can't swap the parts. As said above, the part is $40 (http://www.ifixit.com/MacBook-Parts/MacBook-Santa-Rosa-Penryn-Fan/IF186-051)
